locationofthedrums,therearetwotypes:onewithonedrummountedoneachsideoftheshearersbodyandtheotherwithbothdrumsmountedononesideofthemachine.Theformertypeisthemostwidelyused.Itsadvantageisthatwithonedrumoneachsideoftheshearer,itcansumpineitherdirection.Duringthecuttingtrip,theleadingdrumcutstheupper70%oftheseamheightwhilethereardrumcutsthelower30%andcleansupthebrokencoalonthefloor.Thetwodrumsareapproximately2333ft(710m)apart.Whenthesheareristravelingintheoppositedirectiontothatofthefaceconveyor,thecoalcutbytheleadingdrumhastopassundertheshearersbody,whichincreasesthemovingresistanceoftheshe
