—SuzhouembroideryiscraftedinareasaroundSuzhou,JiangsuProvince,havingahistorydatingback2,000years.Itisfamousforitsbeautifulpatterns,elegantcolours,varietyofstitches,andconsummatecraftsmanship.Itsstitchingismeticulouslyskillful,colorationsubtleandrefined.Suzhouartistsareabletousemorethan40needleworkanda1,000differenttypesofthreadstomakeembroidery,typicallywithnatureandenvironmentthemessuchasflowers,birds,animalsandevengardensonapieceofcloth.

AraresubsetisSudouble-sidedembroidery(雙面繡）whichrequiresultimateskillandartistry.Thefrontandbackofthepiecemayhavedifferentdesigns,buttheendsarenotknottedbutwoveninsothebackcan'tbedistinguished.蜀繡漢代（公元前206～公元220年）ShuXiu(蜀繡)—SichuanembroiderycomesfromareasaroundChengdu,SichuanProvince.ItisoldestknownembroiderystyleinChineseembroideryhistory.Itsrawmaterialsaresatinandcoloredsilk,itscraftsmanshippainstakingandrefined.Theemphasisisonevenstitching,delicatecoloration,andlocalflavor.Sichuanembroideryisusedtodecoratequiltcovers,pillowcases,garments,shoesandpaintedscreens.湘繡春秋戰(zhàn)國時期XiangXiu(湘繡)—HunanembroiderycomesfromareasaroundChangsha,HunanProvince.Itisdistinctforitsstarklyelegantblack,whiteandgraycolouration.Itsemphasisisoncontrastsoflightandshadethathighlightthepatterntexturetogiveathree-dimensionaleffect.Xiangembroiderycompositioncombinesvoidandsolidimagery,utilizingemptyspaceinthesamewayasChineseinkandwashpaintings.粵繡唐永貞元年（805年）YueXiug(粵繡)—GuangdongembroideryiscraftedinChaozhou,GuangdongProvince.Itiscomposedofintricatebutsymmetricalpatterns,vibrantcolours,variedstitchesandadefinedweave.Itsuseofprimarycolors,lightandshadearereminiscentofwesternpaintings.GuXiu(顧繡)—GuembroideryisratherafamilystylethanalocalstyleoriginatedfromGuMingshi'sfamilyduringtheMingDynastyinShanghai.GuembroideryisalsonamedLuXiangYuanembroideryaftertheplacewheretheGufamilylived.Guembroideryssdifferentfromotherstylesasitspecializedinpaintingandcalligraphy.TheinventorofGuembroiderywasaconcubineofGuMingshi'sfirstson,GuHuihai.Later,HanXimeng,thewifeofthesecondgrandsonofGuMingshidevelopedtheskillandwasreputedas"NeedleSaint"(針圣).SomeofhermasterpiecesarekeptintheForbiddenCity.TodayGuembroideryhasbecomeaspeciallocalproductinShanghai.
