ByplantingGaharutreesandharvestingtheleaves,degradedlandcanbechanged

intohealthyagriculturalland.Thisreallymotivateslocalcommunitiesnottocut

downtrees,becausethesetreeswillbetheirmainsourceofincome.Therefore,the

habitatoforangutanscembeprotected.

Aspartoftheproject,thelocalpeopleplanted8,000Gaharutreeswiththehelp

ofWWFvolunteers.Thismeansthatinsteadofcuttingdownpreciousrainforestto

growtea,itisbettertouseempty,degradedland.Thisallowslocalcommunities

tomovetowardsasustainableformofincomethatbenefitstheorangutanhabitat
