Incontrast,organismsacquireonespecificgeneorafewgenestogetherthroughgeneticmodification,withoutothertraitsincludedandwithinasinglegeneration.However,thistechnologytooisinherentlyunpredictableandsomescientistsbelieveitcanproducepotentiallydangerousresultsunlessbettertestingmethodsaredeveloped.

Traditionalbreedingisbasedonsexualreproductionbetween,likeorganisms.Thetransferredgenesaresimilartogenesinthecelltheyjoin.Theyareconveyedincompletegroupsandinafixedsequencethatharmonizeswiththesequenceofgenesinthepartnercell.Incontrast,bioengineersisolateagenefromonetypeoforganismandsplice(接合)ithaphazardlyintotheDNAofadissimilarspecies,disruptingitsnaturalsequence.Further,becausethetransplantedgeneisforeigntoitsnewsurroundings,-itcannotadequatelyfunctionwithoutabigartificialboost.
