Thisteachingplanisdesignedforfourth-gradestudentsstudyingEnglishastheirsecondlanguageusingthePeople’sEducationPress(PEP)textbookseries.ThefocusofthisplanisonUnit3:MyFriendsLet’sSpell.Theprimarylearningobjectiveistoreinforcethestudents’understandingofEnglishvocabularywordsandimprovetheirspellingability.

Procedure

Warm-up(10minutes)

BeginbyreviewingthevocabularywordsfromUnit2,askingstudentstospellthemoutloud.

Introducethetopicfortheday,whichisspellingandintroducethevocabularywordsforthisunit.

VocabularyIntroduction(15minutes)

Showthestudentsaflashcardwithapictureofavocabularywordonit,andaskthestudentstoidentifythepictureandsaytheword.

Askthestudentstospellthewordoutloudtogetherasaclasswhilewritingthewordontheboard.

RepeatthesameprocesswithalltenvocabularywordsfromUnit3.

Playtheaudiofilesofthevocabularywordstohelpstudentspracticepronouncingthewordscorrectly.

VocabularyPractice(20minutes)

Dividetheclassintosmallgroupsanddistributeprintedworksheetswithwordpuzzlesandcrosswordpuzzles.

Instructthestudentstoworktogether,usingthevocabularywordstocompletethepuzzles.

Assistanystudentswhoneedextrahelpwiththepuzzles.

SentenceConstruction(15minutes)

AskthestudentstochooseavocabularywordfromUnit3anduseittoconstructasimplesentenceontheirown.

Encouragethestudentstosharetheirsentenceswiththeclass,andcorrectanyerrorsinpronunciationorgrammar.

AudioPractice(10minutes)

PlaytheaudiofilecontainingsimplesentencesusingthevocabularywordsfromUnit3.

Instructthestudentstolistencarefullyandtrytoidentifythewordstheyhear.

Askthestudentstorepeatthesentencesoutloud,makingsuretousecorrectpronunciationandintonation.

ReviewandAssessment(10minutes)

Reviewthevocabularywordsandaskthestudentstospellsomeofthemoutloud.

Distributeawrittenquiztoassessthestudents’understandingofthevocabularywordsandtheirspellingability.

Collectthequiz,reviewtheanswers,andprovidefeedback.

Assessment

Theprimaryassessmentforthislessonwillbethewrittenquiz,whichwilltestthestudents’understandingofvocabularywordsandtheirspellingability.
