IQisamuchstrongerpredictorthanEIofwhichjobsorprofessionspeoplecanenter.However,havingenoughintelligencetoholdagivenjobdoesnotbyitselfpredictwhetheronewillbeastarperformerorrisetomanagementorleadershippositionsinone'sfield.Inpartthisisbecauseeveryoneatthetoplevelofagivenprofessionhasalreadybeenexaminedforintelligence.AtthosetoplevelsahighIQbecomesabasicability,oneneededjusttogetintoandstayinthegame.

Outofcollege,Millerimmediatelybeganworkingprofessionallyasawriter.HewasintheFederalTheatreProjectuntilitwasshutdown,afterwhichhewrotescreenplays.Duringthistimehealsocontinuedtoimprovehisplaywritingabilities,andin1940hehadhisfirstplayTheManWhoHadAlltheLuckproduced,anditafterwardswontheTheatreGuild'sNationalAward.

In1947hehadAllMySonsproduced,whichenabledhimtowinhisfirstTonyAward,ensuringMiller'splaceinBroadwayTheatre.Hisnextplay,DeathofaSalesman,producedin1949,cementedhisreputationasagiantofaplaywright.

Atthetimeofitsrelease,DeathofaSalesmanwonaTonyAwardforBestAuthor,theNewYorkDramaCircleCritics'Award,andthePulitzerPrizeforDrama,makingArthurMillerthefirstplaywrighttowinallthreeofthesemajorawardsforoneplay.
