4K-12CurriculumRequirementsCoreandEnrichmentTEKSUseofcomputersandrelatedtechnologiesincludedinthestate-mandatedTEKSforEnglishLanguageArtsandReading,Mathematics,Science,andSocialStudies,FineArts,InternationalLanguages,P.E.,etc.forgradesK-12.Accesstocomputersforcoreandenrichmentteacherstousewiththeirstudentsmustbeprovidedinordertomeettheserequirements.
(Fullcomputerlabs,mini-labs,librairies,laptopcarts,onecomputerclassroom,etc.)5K-12CurriculumRequirementsGraduationRequirementsOnetechnologyapplicationsgraduationcreditisrequiredofallstudentsunderallgraduationplans.Beganwithninthgradestudentsenteringhighschoolin2019-98.Seventeenhighschoolcoursesthatmeetthisrequirement(ComputerInformationSystems,Multimedia,ComputerScience,WebMastering,DigitalGraphics&Animation,etc.).
Therearemanycomputer-basedhighschoolcoursesthatdonotcountforthetechnologygraduationrequirement,butstillrequiredailyaccesstocomputers.ThesecoursesincludeKeyboarding,Accounting,Journalism,MathModels,Cisco,APStatistics,OfficeAdministration,etc.6K-12CurriculumRequirementsInterventionsUsingTechnologyComputer-basedinterventionisappropriateformanystudentswithsignificantneedforpracticeinreadingfluency,mathconcepts,andremediationandcredit-retrievalinallcorecontentareas.Tothisend,computersareprovidedatallgradelevelstoaugmentclassroomandlabcomputersforinterventionpurposesandmeettheneedsofthefederalNoChildLeftBehind(NCLB)Act.TechnologysupportsprogramssuchastheStudentSuccessInitiative,Read180andhighschoolcreditretrieval.7K-12CurriculumRequirementsSpecialProgramsandPopulationsTechnologyisanintegralpartoftheDistrict’scomprehensivespecialprogramstomeettheneedsofstudentsinSpecialEducation,GiftedEducation,andBilingual/ESLprograms.Manyspecialeducationstudents’IndividualizedEducationPlans(IEP)requiretheuseoftechnologyunderthefederalIndividualswithDisabilitiesEducationAct(IDEA).8K-12CurriculumRequirementsSpecialProgramsandPopulationsTechnologyneedsrangefromassistivetechnology,whichhelpsspecialeducationstudentsbemoreindependentintheirsurroundings,tohigh-endvideoproductionequipmentforG/Tstudents,toSpanishteachingandlearningcomputerprogramsforBilingualstudents.
