IhavetriedtoextendmyMathsasmuchaspossiblebeyondtheclassroom,andwheneverIdosoIuncovereithersomecompletelynewandintriguingareaofMathematicsoraveryneattrickIhadn'tthoughtofinmorefamiliarterritory.
OneexampleofthisismyattendanceatweeklylecturesgivenbythedepartmentofMathematicsatBristolUniversity,coveringtopicsfromtheMathematicsofjugglingtoquantummechanics,althoughsomeofmyfavouriteshavebeenthoseonthelessexotic^v^inequalities^v^,whichtaughtmealotaboutthinkingaboutproblemscreatively.
IalsoattendedasummerschoolrunbytheNationalAcademyofGiftedandTalentedYouthattheUniversityofDurham,whereIspenttwoweeksbeingintroducedtovariousapproachablefirstyearundergraduatetopicssuchasproofbyinduction,MarkovchainsandusingMaple.
ThisexperiencenotonlyallowedmetodiscoverareasofMathematicsIwouldnototherwisehaveencountered,butalsogavemeasmalltasteofuniversitylife,astherewasalargenumberofuslivinginoneoftheamalsoinvolvedintheUKMTmentoringscheme,wherebyeachmonthIamgivenasheetofquestionsinareasnottouchedonatAlevel,suchasgeometryandnumbertheory,givingmeagoodopportunitytoexplorenewmathematicalideasmyself,andgainamuchdeeperappreciationoftheinterconnectionswithinMathematicsandthecreationofproofs.

IbelievemyotheracademicsubjectsallcomplementMathematicsastheyareaboutfindingwaysofdescribingreality,beitthroughlanguageinFrenchorthroughequationsandmodelsinPhysicsandChemistry.IfindCriticalThinkingespeciallyrelevantasitisabouttheconstructionofsoundlogicalarguments,anartlyingattheheartofMathematicsinproof.IhaveachievedanAgradeinallmodulesacrossallmysubjects.
Inmysparetime,Ipractisekickboxing,andhavecompetedinvariouslocalcompetitions.Asavolunteer,IaminvolvedinayearsevenMathsmentoringschemeandhelpatahomelessshelter.
Ienjoytravelling,andwillbegoingtoNicaraguaforamonthaftermyAlevelstohelpinasmallvillage,explorethelocaljunglesandvolcanoesandpractisemySpanish.IlivedinFrancefromtheagesof9to12,andlearnttoadapttoanewlanguageandculture.

Anotherpart-timeexperiencethatbenefitedmealotwasmusicscore.BecauseIlikeapieceofTVmusicverymuch,Itrytowriteitasapianoscore.Ihavecet-5certificateofamateurelectronicorgan,butitisstillnoteasy.Afterthebottleneck,IturnedtotheInternet.However,howmanypeoplewillhelpstrangerstodothiskindoftrouble?Theansweriszero.SoIdecidedtodoitbymyself.Ididn'texpectthataftermyownefforts,Ireallywroteit!Fromthis,Ilearnedanotherimportantthing,thatis,tobeselfreliant.Noonecanrelyonyou.Itismeaningfultoovercomedifficultiesbyourselves.
Therefore,itisreasonabletobelievethatalthoughIcanonlyachievetheuppersecondaryschoolgradesinthecurrent,IwillcertainlybeabletodomybestwhenIgototheuniversitytostudymyfavoritesubjectsandyearnforthem.Atthattime,Iwouldchoosemyowncareeranddevotemyselftoit.Believemetodobetter-andIhopeyoucanbelieveit.
