1.1.INTRODUCTION

TheGeneralManagerappointedtomanageanewhotelprojectwillvisittheRegionalOffice

responsibleforthatproject,en-routetothesite.Forpurposesofthismanual,theregional

SeniorExecutiveinchargeforthehotelopeningprojectwillbereferredtoasthe“Vice

President-HotelOpenings”1.

Thesectionsbelowprovideanextensiveanddetailedchecklist.Theintentisnotonlyto

serveasachecklist,butalsotopromptdiscussion,andgeneraterelevantandnovel

ideas/activitiesthatareofhigh-impact,toensureasuccessfulopening.

1.2.COORDINATION

TheVicePresident-HotelOpeningsresponsibleforthenewprojectshallarrangethetiming

oftheGeneralManager'svisit,andwillcommunicatesametotheincomingGeneralManager.

TheGeneralManageronhis/herowninitiativeshouldconfirmthedatesofthevisitshortly

beforedeparture.TheVicePresident-HotelOpeningswillcoordinateascheduleofmeetings

fortheGenera]ManagertomeettherespectiveRegionalSpecialiststoensureaproductive

visit.

ThoseGeneralManager'swhohavebeeninvolvedwiththedevelopmentphaseoftheproject

willofcourse,haveagreaterknowledgeoftheproject,andmaynotneedthedepthof

briefingprescribedbelow.Iftheopportunitypresentsitself,someofthesemeetingsand

discussionsmaybeheldearlier.

1.3.ORIENTATION

ThetopicsassumetheRegionalSpecialistsareintimatelyfamiliarwiththesiteandlocation,

whichforvariousreasonsmaynotbetheactualcase.Insomecases,theGeneralManager

mayhaveagreaterknowledgeofthelocationthantheRegionalSpecialists,duetohaving

workedtherebefore,etc.Nevertheless,thisistheopportunityfortheRegionalSpecialiststo

brieftheGeneralManageronunusualornovelideas,opportunities,andactivities,whichis

beingimplementedbyotherInter-ContinentalHotelsGrouphotelsandbythecompetition.

TheVicePresident-HotelOpeningsshoulddeterminewhichopenitemsshouldbe

investigatedbytheGeneralManagerandreportedbacktotheRegionalOffice,oncethe

GeneralManagerhasvisitedthehotelsite.
