Thatevent,theauthorssuggest,occurredintheAndesMountains.Theunderground

partsallowedthepotatotosurviveinthisunforgivinghabitatandspreadacrosstheworld.

Theyenabledplantstoreproducewithoutseeds,makingthemadaptable.“Evolvingthese

undergroundpartsgavepotatoesahugeadvantageinhardenvironments,fuelinganexplosion
