InstallationManualforUnderfloorHeatingSystem
1.Introduction
Thismanualprovidesdetailedguidanceforprofessionalinstallerstocorrectlyinstallanunderfloorheatingsystem.Adheringtotheseproceduresensuresthesystemoperatesefficiently,safely,andmeetsdesignspecifications.Itappliestobothwet(concrete-encased)anddry(modularpanel)underfloorheatingsetups,withspecificnotesforeachtypewhereapplicable.
2.ToolsandMaterialsRequired
Beforestartingtheinstallation,preparethefollowingtoolsandmaterials:
2.1Tools
Pipecutter(suitableforPEX/PE-RTpipes)
Manifold(flow/returndistributionunit)
Pressuregauge(forsystempressuretesting)
Thermostaticmixer(iftemperaturecontrolisrequired)
Trowel(foradhesiveorconcrete-relatedwork)
Laserlevelorspiritlevel(forflatnessinspection)
Insulationtape(forpipejoints)
Crimpingtool(forPEXpipeconnections)
2.2Materials
Underfloorheatingpipes(PEX,PE-RT,orPB,asperthedesignrequirements)
Insulationboards(EPSorXPS,withaminimumthicknessof20mm)
Reflectivefoil(aluminum-backed,forheatreflection)
Edgeinsulationstrips(topreventheatlossattheperimeters)
Modularpanels(fordry-typesystems,withpre-groovedstructuresforpipeplacement)
3.InstallationProcedures
3.1FloorPreparation
2.DebrisRemoval:Sweeporvacuumthesubfloortogetridofdust,dirt,orlooseparticlesthatmayhaveanegativeimpactontheinsulationeffectortheadhesionofthepipes.
3.2InsulationLayerInstallation
1.LayInsulationBoards:
Forconcretesubfloors:PlaceXPS/EPSinsulationboards(sealthejointswithtape)topreventheatfrombeinglostdownwards.Ensurethattheboardsareflushandcovertheentireinstallationarea.
2.EdgeInsulation:Installflexibleedgestrips(withathicknessof10-15mm)alongallwalls,skirtingboards,andaroundfixedobjects(suchaspillars).Thiscanabsorbexpansionandpreventheattransfertothewalls.
3.3ReflectiveFoilApplication
Unrollthereflectivefoilovertheinsulation,makingsureitcoverstheentirearea.Overlaptheseamsby50mmandtapethemtoformacontinuousreflectivelayer,whichcandirecttheheatupwardsintotheroom.
3.4PipeLayoutandInstallation
1.PipeSelection:Cuttheheatingpipetotherequiredlength(allowanextra10%ofthelengthforbends).Useapipecuttertomakecleanandsquarecuts(avoidcrushingthepipe).
2.LayoutDesign:Followthedesignplan(suchasserpentineorspiral)toensureuniformheatdistribution.Thepipespacingusuallyrangesfrom100mmto300mm(closerspacingisneededforhigherheatoutput).
3.PipePlacement:
WetSystem:Laythepipesintotheinsulationgrooves(orfixthemwithpipeclips)accordingtothespecifiedspacing.Avoidsharpbends(theminimumradiusshouldbe5timesthepipediameter)topreventflowrestrictions.
DrySystem:Pressthepipesintothepre-groovedmodularpanels,ensuringthattheyarefullyplacedwithinthegroovesforstability.
4.PipeSecuring:Usepipeclips(forwetsystems)orthegroovesofthepanels(fordrysystems)toholdthepipesinplace.Ensurethatthepipesaretautbutnotstretched.
3.5ManifoldConnection
1.ManifoldPlacement:Mountthemanifoldonawall(1-1.5mabovethefloorlevel)neartheboilerorheatsource.Ensurethatitislevelandaccessibleforfuturemaintenance.
2.PipeConnection:
Secureallconnectionswithinsulationtapetopreventheatlossandleaks.
3.6PressureTesting
1.InitialTest:Fillthesystemwithwaterandpressurizeitto1.5timestheworkingpressure(orasperlocalcodes,usually6-8bar).
2.LeakCheck:Monitorthepressurefor30minutes.Ifthepressuredropismorethan0.5bar,itindicatesaleak.Locateandrepairtheleakbeforeproceeding.
3.FinalTest:Aftertherepairs,re-pressurizethesystemandconfirmitsstabilityfor24hours.
WetSystem:Pourscreed(withaminimumthicknessof50mm)overthepipes,ensuringevencoverage.Allowthescreedtocureforatleast7daysbeforeinstallingtheflooring.
DrySystem:Installthefinishedfloor(suchaswoodortile)directlyoverthemodularpanels,followingtheflooringmanufacturer'sguidelines.
4.Precautions
SafetyFirst:Wearprotectivegear(gloves,goggles)whencuttingpipesorworkingwithscreed.Ensureproperventilationduringadhesive/screedapplication.
PipeProtection:Avoidwalkingonthepipesduringinstallationtopreventdamage.Keepthepipesawayfromsharpobjectsorheavymachinery.
TemperatureLimits:Donotexposethepipestotemperaturesexceeding95°C(forPEX/PE-RT)duringinstallationoroperation.
5.MaintenanceSuggestions
AnnualInspection:Checkthemanifoldconnections,pressure,andpipeintegrityeveryyear.Bleedairfromthesystemifnecessary.
FilterCleaning:Cleanthemanifoldfilterevery6monthstopreventdebrisbuildup.
PressureMonitoring:Maintainthesystempressurebetween1-2bar(adjustviathefillingloopifnecessary).
