ortantcontributionstoSkopostheory.Hetookthepurposeofatextastheprimarycriterionfortranslation,replacingtheequivalencetheoryandcreatingSkopostheory.Hebelievesthattranslationisapurposefulactivity,andtranslatorsshouldchoosetranslationstrategiesandmethodsaccordingtothetargetcontextandtheexpectationsoftargetreaders.Inaddition,Vermeerproposesthatthepurposeoftranslationdeterminestranslationstrategiesandmethods.Fromthisperspective,intheprocessoftranslation,thetranslatorcandeterminethespecifictranslationmethodsandskillsofthetargettextinaspecificenvironmentaccordingtotheexpectedfunctionofthetargetlanguage,combinedwith“socialandculturebackgroundknowledge”“expectation”“sensitivity”and“communicativeneedsofthetargetreader”AccordingtotheresearchersofSkopostheory,translationisacommunicativeactwhosepurposedeterminesthetranslationintention.Inotherwords,thetranslationmethodisdeterminedbythetranslationpurpose.Later,asthesecondgenerationleaderofSkoposTheory,Nordproposedtheprincipleof“fidelityplusfunction”onthebasisoftheanalysisofSkoposTheoryandincorporateditintofunctionaltranslationtheory.“Fidelity”meansthatthetranslatorneedstobeloyaltotheoriginalauthorandrespecttheauthor’sintentions,while“functionality”meansthatthemodelofthetargettextshouldactaccordingtothetargetlocale.Thisenhancestherelationshipbetweenthetranslatorandthetargetaudience.3.2BasicRulesofSkoposTheoryVermeerputsforwardthreebasicprinciplesofSkopostheory,namelytheskoposrule,thecoherentruleandthefidelityrule.Translationshouldproducethedesiredeffectaccordingtothecontextandcultureofthetargetlanguage.Theentiretranslationprocessisdeterminedbyitspurpose,whichmeansthattheeffectdefinesthemethod;however,translationactivitieshavemultiplepurposes,whicharefurthercategorizedintothreegroups:thetranslator’spurpose,thepurposeofthetranslatedversion,andthepurposeofthespecifiedtranslationmethod.Usually,“skopos”referstothecommunicativepurposeofthetranslatedversion,i.e.,thecommunicativepurposeofthetranslatedversiongiventothetargetreadersinthetargetsocialandculturalcontext.Therefore,thetranslatorshoulddefinethespecificpurposeoftranslationaccordingtotheparticulartranslationcontextanddecidewhichtranslationmethodshouldbeusedinordertofulfillthatpurpose.Vermeerarguesthatalltextsarecreatedforspecificpurposesandtheyaremeaningfulwhentheyservethosepurposes.InthetranslationofInternetbuzzwords,duetothespecialfunctionofthetext,translatorscanusedifferenttranslationmethodstomeetdifferentcommunicativeneeds,suchasliteraltranslation,paraphrase,freetranslationorannotation.Thepurposeistofurtherconveytheculturalconnotationandexternalpublicityofthesourcetext.Thecoherentruleimpliesthatthetargettextmustmeetthestandardofcoherencewithinthediscoursethetargetreadersareabletounderstandthetargettextinthecommunicativeenvironmentaswellasintheacceptedculturalcontext,whichrequiresthetranslatortouseauthenticlanguageasmuchaspossibleinaccordancewiththeculturalpracticesofthetargetcountry,andtoavoidtheuseofvocabularyorexpressionsthatconflictwiththenativecustomsorsocialbackgroundofthetargetlanguage.Inotherwords,thetargettextmustbemeaningfulandacceptabletothetargetreaders,whilethesentencestructurecanbeadjustedaccordingtotheneedsofthetargetreaders.Duringthetranslationprocess,thetranslatormayadjustexpressionsorrewritecertainsentencestoretainimportantinformationandreduceirrelevantinformationsothatthelogicalstructureofthetranslatedversioncanbepresentedtothetargetreaders.Accordingtotherequirementsandpurposesoftranslation,thereshouldbenoChinglishinthetranslatedtext.Inaddition,whileaccuratelyconveyingtheculturalinformationofthesourcetext,thetranslator’shabitsofexpressionandmodesofthinkingshouldbeconsistentwiththetargetlanguageinordertoachievefunctionalequivalenceandfulfilltheintendedpurposeofthetargetlanguage.Theprincipleoffidelity,referstotheconsistencyofthesourcetextandthetargettextacrossdisciplines.Thisimpliesfidelitytothesourcetext,butthedegreeandformoffidelitydependsonthepurposeofthetranslationandthetranslator’slevelofunderstandingofthesourcetext.Inordertoachievethis,thetranslatordoesnothavetotranslatewordforword,butcanimitateorrecreatebasedontheoriginalcontent.Inotherwords,thetranslatorcantranslatebasedonthepurposeofthesourcetextwhileremainingfaithfultoit.Theprincipleoffidelityisespeciallyimportantinthetranslationofacademicpapersduetotheirspecialcharacteristics.FromthepointofviewofSkopostheory,basedonthedifferencesbetweenChineseandWesternculturesandtheacceptabilityoftranslation,thetranslatorcanmaketheInternetbuzzwordsconveythemessagebetterandconveyChinesecultureaswellastheimageofthecountryaccordingtothepurposeandfunctionoftranslation.AmongthethreeprinciplesofSkopostheory,thepurposeruleplaysthemostimportantrole,whiletheprinciplesofcoherenceandfaithfulness,asauxiliaryprinciples,shouldbesubordinatedtothepurposerule.Inotherwords,thepurposeruleisuniversallyapplicable,whilethecoherenceruleandthefidelityrulearespecialrules.Ifthepurposeprinciplerequiresthatthetargettextfunctiondifferentlyfromthesourcetext,thefidelityruledoesnotapply.Furthermore,ifthepurposerulerequiresthatthetargettextreproducethewritingfeaturesofthesourcetext,theprinciplesofcoherenceandfidelityareconsistent.4InternetbuzzwordsInternetbuzzwordsarethemostactivelanguagesymbolswithfermentedfunctionsandspecialmeaningsthatarespontaneouslyusedbynetizensmainlyintheonlinearenainacertainperiodoftime.Itusuallycontainssomesymbols,letters,punctuation,pinyinandsoon,andvariouscombinationsofthesecontentsandwordsareusuallyabletoformspecialmeaningsintheprocessofspreading.4.1TheoriginanddefinitionofinternetbuzzwordsTheoriginofInternetbuzzwordscanbetracedbacktotheemergenceanddevelopmentoftheInternet.WiththepopularizationoftheInternetinChina,onlinecommunities,forumsandchatroomshavebecomethemainplatformsforpeopletocommunicate.TheseplatformsprovidefertilesoilforthecreationandspreadofInternetbuzzwords.EarlyInternetcommunitiesandforumssuchasTianyaCommunity,werethemainbirthplaceofInternetbuzzwords.Whennetizenscommunicatedontheseplatforms,theycreatedmanyuniquewordsandphrasesinordertoexpresshumor,flirtationorirony.Later,withthepopularizationofinstantmessagingtoolssuchasQQandMSN,peoplecommunicatemorefrequentlyontheInternet.Theconvenienceandreal-timenatureofthesetoolsallowInternetbuzzwordstospreadrapidly.TheriseofsocialmediaplatformssuchasmicrobloggingandWeChathasfurtheracceleratedthespreadofInternetbuzzwords.TheopennessandinteractivityoftheseplatformsenabletherapidspreadofInternetbuzzwordstoawideraudience.Onlineliteratureandonlinevideosarealsoimportantsourcesofonlinebuzzwords.Manyclassiclinesorplotsinonlinenovelsandvideosarequotedandimitatedbynetizens,andgraduallybecomepopularonlineterms.SomeInternetbuzzwordsmayalsooriginatefromsocialhotspotsandnewsevents,andnetizenscreatenewwordsorphrasestoexpresstheirviewsandemotionswhendiscussingtheseevents.ThespreadandevolutionofInternetbuzzwordsareinfluencedbyavarietyoffactors,includinghotsocialevents,entertainmentnews,andthecreativityofnetizens.Itnotonlyreflectsthesocialstatusquoandpublicpsychology,butalsoreflectsacertainhumanattitude,socialpsychology,collectiveemotionthatissomewhatuniversalinaspecificperiod.4.2FeaturesofInternetBuzzwords4.2.1BrevityAsanimportantpartofInternetculture,themodeofcommunicationandcharacteristicsofInternetbuzzwordsaresignificantlydifferentfromthoseoftraditionallanguages.BrevityisoneofthecorefeaturesofInternetbuzzwords,whichnotonlymeetsthedemandforfastinputinInternetcommunication,butalsoadaptstothemultitaskinghabitsofInternetusers.InthedailyprocessofsurfingtheInternet,Internetusersoftenneedtocarryoutavarietyofactivitiesatthesametime,suchaschattingwithdifferentInternetusers,browsingtheWeb,replyingtomessages,etc.Theseactivitiesplacehighdemandsonthespeedoftextinput,soInternetbuzzwordsmustbeconciseandclearsothattheycanbeinputanddisseminatedquickly.ThebrevityofInternetbuzzwordsisnotonlyreflectedintherefinementofvocabulary,butalsointheeconomyoftheirlanguagestructure.Byexpressingrichmeaningsthroughlimitedvocabulary,Internetbuzzwordsrealizetheefficienttransmissionoflanguage.Thesesimple,easy-to-understandanddistinctive
