Thereisnoendtothedisastersapersoncanworryaboutwhenhefocusedanxiouslyon
thefuture.Thereareeventsinhisfuture,includinghisowndeath,overwhichhehaslittle
ornocontrol,buthecanruinhislifeworryingaboutthem.Therearcsomedisastershe
maybeabletoprevent,buthemustdothatbylivingwellinthepresent,notsimplyby
worryingaboutthefuture.Thepresentmomentwhichisevennowmovingintothepast,
istheonlyrealityIknow,andIdon'twanttomissit.Thewild-chcrrycoughdrop
dissolvinginmymouthissweetandsoothing.Evenmysorethroatandbackachehave
meaning.Thecoolnightair,thecracklingnoisesofmyfurnace,mycatyawningand
stretching—thesearethetangiblerealitiesIcanrecognize.Theyexistinthismoment,
togetherwithmyownbreathing.Alongwiththesearetherealitiesofotherpeopleandof
alllifeonthisearththatmatterstomenow,notatsomepastorfuturetime.Everyone
