Plasmashockcanarise:whenafluidvelocityislargerthantheionsoundvelocity(withoutmagneticfield)ortheAlfvenvelocity(withmagneticfield).A
steadyshock(orshockfront,shockprofile)istheresultofabalancebetweencompressiveanddissipativeeffects.4Front,UpstreamandDownstreamShockfront(orshockprofile):asteadywave-front,propagatingatsupersonicspeedthroughtheundisturbedfluid.Upstream⑴:theunshocked(undisturbed)fluidbeforetheshockfrontDownstream⑵:theshockedfluid(disturbed)behindthefrontfront5TheneutralplasmashockInmostcases,wedescribetheplasmashockwiththesingle(neutral)fluidormagnetohydrodynamic(MHD)equations.Sotheplasmashockisneutralessentially.Inneutralplasmashocktheremaybeplasmacurrentandmagneticfield,butthereisnot
