捕鯨(whalehunting)，將系有繩索的铦或叉、鏢等，采用射擊或投擲方式刺入鯨體進行獵捕。獵捕對象有須鯨和齒鯨兩類，以藍鯨、長須鯨、露脊鯨、抹香鯨、座頭鯨、北極鯨、灰鯨、鳁鯨、小鳁鯨等為主。由于鯨油是貴重的工業(yè)原料，歷史上歐洲和美洲一些國家的捕鯨活動長盛不衰。自20世紀中葉起，由于過度獵捕導致資源衰退以及國際上對捕鯨的限制，捕鯨業(yè)已趨衰落。
