TeachingProcedures

Step1:VocabularyIntroductionandWordMatching(15minutes)

BeginthelessonbyintroducingthenewvocabularywordsrelatedtoancientEgypt,suchaspharaoh,tomb,pyramid,dynasty,hieroglyphics,etc.

Dividethestudentsintopairsorsmallgroups.

Giveeachgroupasetofvocabularycards,whichcontainthewordsandtheirdefinitions.

Instructthegroupstomatchthewordswiththeirdefinitionsandtopracticesayingthewordsoutloud.

Afterafewminutes,askafewgroupstosharetheiranswersandcorrectanymistakes.

Step2:DialoguePractice(20minutes)

Playtheaudiorecordingofthedialogueinthetextbook,orreaditaloudyourself.

Askthestudentstofollowalongintheirtextbooksandlistencarefullytothepronunciationandintonation.

Pairthestudentsupandassignthemroles:onestudentisthetourguide,andtheotheristhetourist.

Instructthestudentstopracticethedialoguewiththeirpartner,focusingonspeakingclearlyandfluently.

Afterafewminutes,askafewpairstoperformthedialogueinfrontoftheclass.

Step3:ReadingComprehension(15minutes)

Handouttheworksheetwiththetrue/falsestatementsaboutthetext.

Instructthestudentstoreadthetextcarefullyandtodeterminewhichstatementsaretrueandwhicharefalse.

Allowthestudentsafewminutestocompletetheworksheetindividuallyorinpairs.

Gothrougheachstatementtogetherasaclassanddiscussthecorrectanswers.

Step4:GroupDiscussion(10minutes)

Dividetheclassintosmallgroups.

Instructeachgrouptodiscussandanswerthefollowingquestions:

WhatwouldyouliketoseeorlearnifyouvisitedancientEgypt?

HowdoyouthinklifewasdifferentinancientEgyptcomparedtomoderntimes?

Encouragethestudentstosharetheiropinionsandideaswitheachother.

Afterafewminutes,askeachgrouptosharetheiranswerswiththeclass.

Step5:Homework(5-10minutes)

AssignthestudentstowriteashortparagraphdescribingwhattheywouldliketoseeorlearniftheyvisitedancientEgypt.

Collecttheparagraphsatthenextclassmeeting.
