Thereisatemptationtorushtocanonizeyourmemory.Thereisnoneedtodoso.Youstandtallenoughasahumanbeingofuniquequalitiesnottoneedtobeseenasasaint.Indeedtosanctifyyourmemorywouldbetomissoutontheverycoreofyourbeing,yourwonderfullymischievoussenseofhumorwiththelaughthatbentyoudouble,yourjoyforlifetransmittedwhereveryoutookyoursmile,andthesparkleinthoseunforgettableeyes,yourboundlessenergywhichyoucouldbarelycontain.

Butyourgreatestgiftwasyourintuition,anditwasagiftyouusedwisely.Thisiswhatunderpinnedallyourwonderfulattributes.Andifwelooktoanalyzewhatitwasaboutyouthathadsuchawideappeal,wefinditinyourinstinctivefeelforwhatwasreallyimportantinallourlives.

WithoutyourGod-givensensitivity,wewouldbeimmersedingreaterignoranceattheanguishofAIDSandHIVsufferers,theplightofthehomeless,theisolationoflepers,therandomdestructionoflandmines.Dianaexplainedtomeoncethatitwasherinnermostfeelingsofsufferingthatmadeitpossibleforhertoconnectwithherconstituencyoftherejected.

TheseweredaysIwillalwaystreasure.Itwasasifwe'dbeentransportedbacktoourchildhood,whenwespentsuchanenormousamountoftimetogether,thetwoyoungestinthefamily.

Fundamentallyshehadn'tchangedatallfromthebigsisterwhomotheredmeasababy,foughtwithmeatschoolandenduredthoselongtrainjourneysbetweenourparents'homeswithmeatweekends.Itisatributetoherlevel-headednessandstrengththatdespitethemostbizarrelifeimaginableafterherchildhood,sheremainedintact,truetoherself.

Thereisnodoubtthatshewaslookingforanewdirectioninherlifeatthistime.Shetalked

ShewouldwantustodaytopledgeourselvestoprotectingherbelovedboysWilliamandHarryfromasimilarfate.AndIdothishere,Diana,onyourbehalf.Wewillnotallowthemtosuffertheanguishthatusedregularlytodriveyoutotearfuldespair.
