Afterthecloseofthewarin1865,machinerybecameevermoreimportantinnorthernagriculture,andimprovedequipmentwascontinuallyintroduced.By1880aself-bindingreaperhadbeenperfectedthatnotonlycutthegrain,butalsogatheredthestalksandboundthemwithtwine.Threshingmachineswerealsobeingimprovedandenlarged,andafter1870theywereincreasinglypoweredbysteamenginesratherthanbyhorses.Sincesteam-poweredthreshingmachineswerecostlyitems—runningfrom$1,000to$4,000—theywereusuallyownedbycustomthresherownerswhothenworkedtheirwayfromfarmtofarmduringtheharvestseason."Combines"werealsocomingintouseonthegreatwheatranchesinCaliforniaandthePacificNorthwest.Theseponderousmachines—sometimespulledbyasmanyas40horses—reapedthegrain,threshedit,andbaggedit,allinonesimultaneousoperation.

托福聽(tīng)力考試要求

1、BasicComprehension:Gist+Details

基本理解能力的考察大概占到托福聽(tīng)力總體比例的70%左右,首先,幾乎是每篇對(duì)話和講座的第一道題都是主旨題,只不過(guò)問(wèn)法可能不一樣,而細(xì)節(jié)題占的比例也比較大。

TPO和最近考過(guò)的托福聽(tīng)力真題的最大區(qū)別在于:TPO聽(tīng)力中的細(xì)節(jié)題絕大多數(shù)都可以通過(guò)原文內(nèi)容直接定位正確答案,而現(xiàn)在真題中的很多題目需要考生聽(tīng)到細(xì)節(jié)以后,結(jié)合自己的邏輯分析后,才能選出正確答案,有自己分析加工判斷的過(guò)程。

這可能就是很多同學(xué),僅僅用TPO訓(xùn)練之后,聽(tīng)力難以得到現(xiàn)實(shí)中高分的原因之一。

2、PragmaticUnderstanding:Stance+Function

語(yǔ)義功能理解題大概占到總體聽(tīng)力題的20%左右,語(yǔ)義功能理解的考查的題型主要以部分重聽(tīng)題為主,所謂語(yǔ)義功能理解,就是要求考生透過(guò)教授或者學(xué)生說(shuō)話的字面意思,推斷話語(yǔ)中的真正含義。

所以,部分重聽(tīng)題做題的兩條黃金原則:

不選和重放錄音內(nèi)容過(guò)度重合的答案

不選和重放錄音內(nèi)容字面意思相近的答案

什么叫做錄音內(nèi)容和選項(xiàng)字面意思相近呢?舉個(gè)例子,比如TPO12/C1中的第5題中重放錄音的內(nèi)容是:Tellmeaboutit.題目問(wèn)老師為什么講這句話。

其中一個(gè)選項(xiàng)的是:Shedidnthearwhatthestudentsaid;

還有一個(gè)選項(xiàng)是:Shewantsthestudenttoexplainhiscomment.

這兩個(gè)選項(xiàng)就屬于是典型的字面意思相近。所以我們應(yīng)該選:Sheunderstandsthestudentsproblem這個(gè)答案。

因?yàn)橘嫡Z(yǔ):Tellmeaboutit=Youretellingme,解釋為:誰(shuí)說(shuō)不是呢,相當(dāng)于:Ithinkso的意思。

很多老師或者是書(shū)籍將Tellmeaboutit解釋為:告訴我吧。可謂是貽笑大方。即使你不知道tellmeaboutit的準(zhǔn)確意思,也可以利用這兩條技巧排除法,選出正確答案。

3、ConnectiveInformation:Categorization+Summarization
