consideration.

14Theserequirementsdonotcoverappliancesforuseinlocationssuchasthoseareasofhospitals,

aooratories,institutions,andthelikewheredispersionofpathological,chemical,physical,radioactiveor

o:heragentscouldproducearisktohealth.Appliancesintendedforuseinsuchlocationsareinvestigated

undertheserequirementsandundersuchadditionalrequirementsasareapplicabletotheappliance,with

aopropriateconsiderationbeinggiventothespecificintendeduse.

15Theserequirementsapplyonlytoaspecifictypeortypesofappliances,suchasavacuumcleaneror

floorfinishingmachine,iftherequirementissoidentifiedbyspecificreferencetothetypeortypes

involved.Absenceofsuchspecificreferenceoruseoftheterm"appliance"indicatesthattherequirement

appliestoallappliancescoveredbythisstandard.

1.6Internal-combustionenginepoweredfloorcleaningmachinesforindustrial/commercialuse,suchas

floorbuffers.scrubbers,sweepers,extractors,andpolishers,arecoveredunderUL558.

17Theserequirementsdonotcovermachinesthatgeneratepressureinexcessof2.5MPa(360psi).

2.1Attachments

2.1.1Afunctionalattachmentthatisrecommended,madeavailable.orpackagedwithanapplianceby

themanufacturerforusewithanapplianceshallbeincludedintheinvestigationoftheappliance.

ExceptionNo.1:Anon-electricalattachment,suchasacrevicetool,arupholsterybrush,orthelike,that

hasnodrivenpartsandisintendedtofacilitateacleaningoperationwithouttheuseofaliquidneednotbe

investigated.

ExceptionNo.2:Anon-electricalattachmentthathasnodrivenpartsandisintendedtofacilitatea

cleaningoperationwiththeuseofaliquidneednotbeinvestigatedwhenintendedforusewithawetpick-

upvacuumu/eanerurhuuntiliuldnxtmuluf.

21.2Anelectricalattachmentprovidedwithline-voltageelectricalcontactsontheundersideofthe

aitachmentandincloseproximitytothesurfacetobecleanedshallcomplywiththefollowing:

a)Basedontheanticipatedbuild-upofdustordirtonthebottomoftheattachmentandthe

possibilityofaconductivepathbeingestablishedbetweentheeectricalcontacts,thereshallnotbe

anincreaseintheriskoffireduetotheshortingoftheelectricalcontacts.Theattachmentshallbe

testedasdescribedintheabnormaloperation-shortedelectricalcontacttest,Clause5.10.3.

b)Duringtheanticipatedcleaningoftheattachment,thereshallnotbeanincreaseintheriskof

electricshocktotheuser.Tneattachment,whileconnectedtotheappliance,shallbetestedas

describedinthecleaningtesl,Clause5.12.9.

c)lftheelectricalattachmentisintendedtobeinsertedintomatingelectricalcontacts(suchasthe

contactsofamotorizedbrush),thematingofwhichcanenergizeaload(suchasthebrushmotor

orrelaycoil),thematingelectricalcontactsontheattachmentshallhavesuitablevoltageand

currentratings,andbesuitablyratedtomakeandbreaktheoarticularloadinaccordancewith
