Let’s

see

what

the

31

seasons

are

like

in

Canada.

Spring

usually

32

in

April

with

lots

of

rain.

The

weather

is

still

cold.

Spring

is

a

very

short

season

and

33

you

know

it,

summer

arrives!

Summer

can

be

very

hot

in

Canada.

The

sunlight

is

so

strong.

You

can

wear

34

.

It’s

good

for

your

eyes

in

the

sun.

It

sometimes

rains.

You

might

see

rainbows

if

you

are

35

.

It’s

also

very

wet.

People

can

shorts.

Autumn

usually

comes

in

September.

It

is

a

very

beautiful

season.

The

leaves

on

the

trees

become

37

orange,

red,

yellow

...

It’s

very

cool

and

it’s

a

good

season

to

38

a

walk

in

the

park.

Winter

is

from

39

December

to

late

March.

It

can

be

very

cold

with

lots

of

snow.

It’s

often

40

in

winter.

But

the

days

are

always

cold!

He

has

the

41

each

day

in

Mrs

class.

First

they

do

42

each

morning.

Jerald

loves

that

class.

They

read

great

stories

out

of

their

reading

books.

Some

of

them

are

plays

and

the

students

all

take

turns

acting

out

the

They

work

well

in

their

That

is

fun

too.

But

there

is

one

big

43

in

third

grade.

They

have

to

learn

the

multiplication

facts(乘法口訣)

in

maths!

Jerald

does

not

want

to

spend

time

each

day

studying

the

multiplication

facts.

They

say

the

multiplication

facts

44

.

And

his

parents

call

out

multiplication

at

This

is

no

45

for

Jerald!

He

just

hates

learning

the

multiplication

facts.

Then

one

morning

Mrs

came

into

the

classroom.

She

held

a

tape

recorder,

microphone(麥克風(fēng)),

and

a

She

told

Jerald

that

46

would

give

the

lesson

that

day.“What?

Me?”Jerald

couldn’t

believe

his

ears.

Everyone

was

going

to

record

the

multiplication

facts.

Anyway,

he

47

this!“That’s

cool!”He

said

to

himself.

He

held

the

microphone

out

so

everyone

could

be

heard.

He

felt

he

was

just

like

a

48

that

microphone.

Mrs

Harold

said,“Jerald,

please

tell

the

class

to

study

the

multiplication

facts

at

home

49

they

will

record

the

lesson

again

tomorrow.”Jerald

went

home

and

learned

each

fact.

He

wanted

to

make

sure

he

could

50

each

fact

in

the

next

Do

The

Ugly

or

The

Little

Mermaid?

Do

you

know

the

writer

of

these

great

stories?

It’s

Andersen,

a

Dane(丹麥人).

In

1805,

Andersen

was

born

in

a

poor

family

in

Denmark.

As

a

young

boy,

Andersen

was

tall,

ugly

and

had

a

very

big

nose.

His

friends

always

laughed

at

him.

Even

worse,

little

Andersen

needed

to

make

money

by

himself

after

his

father

died

in

1816.

When

he

was

17,

he

met

a

manager(經(jīng)理)

of

a

theatre.

With

the

manager’s

help,

Andersen

went

back

to

school.

He

had

to

study

with

children

younger

than

him.

It

was

there

that

he

began

writing.

BHis

first

storybook

became

popular

and

successful

when

it

came

out

in

1835.

The

struggles

of

life

helped

him

write

many

stories.

With

beautiful

words

and

a

wild

imagination,

his

stories

could

always

win

children’s

hearts.

Children

could

feel

his

kindness

and

love

in

his

stories.

The

poor

ugly

boy

from

Denmark

soon

became

more

and

more

famous,

just

like

the

ugly

duckling

turned

into

a

beautiful

swan.

Today,

children

from

different

countries

still

read

his

books.

In

Denmark,

there

is

a

statue(雕像)

of

the

little

mermaid

to

remember

the

great

writer—Andersen.

one

of

At

last,

people

put
