suggeststhatCSRmaycreatemonetaryvalueforcompanies–atleastwhenthey

areprosecutedforcorruption.

ThelargestfirmsinAmericaandBritaintogetherspendmorethan$15billion

ayearonCSR,accordingtoanestimatebyEPG,aconsultingfirm.Thiscould

addvaluetotheirbusinessesinthreeways.First,consumersmaytakeCSR

spendingasa“signal”thatacompany’sproductsareofhighquality.Second,

customersmaybewillingtobuyacompany’sproductsasanindirectwayto

donatetothegoodcausesithelps.Andthird,throughamorediffuse“haloeffect,”

wherebyitsgooddeedsearnitgreaterconsiderationfromconsumersandothers.

CSR.“Weestimatethateithereliminatingasubstantiallabour-rightsconcern,
