WashingtonrememberedRumsey'swalkingboatanddecidedthat

Rumseywasthemantobuildthecanal.

Rumseyhadcontinuedhisworkonthemechanicalboat,buta

full-scalemodelhadnotworkedaswellasthesmallerversion.The

largerboatspoleswouldstickorsliponthebottomoftheriverand

whentheboatmoved,itlurched(突然前傾)andleaned
