a

few

weeks

in

China,

I

started

to

notice

something

strange

at

the

dinner

table.

I

was

in

a

restaurant

with

my

friends

when,

besides

us

on

another

table,

a

group

of

four

men

started

shouting

at

each

other

and

waving

their

money

around.36This

scene

made

me

think

of

what

it

would

look

like

in

Britain.

It

would

be

almost

unheard

of.

37In

a

Britain

restaurant,

youusuallyjust

pay

for

yourself

.

It’s

called

“splitting

the

bill”

or

“going

Dutch(AA制)”.

I

guess

there

is

one

reason

that

could

explain

some

of

the

differences

between

East

and

West.

38Usually

in

Chinese

restaurants,

the

group

decides

on

each

dish,

so

the

group

eats

all

of

the

dishes.

Can

you

imagine

trying

to

workout

how

much

each

person

needs

to

pay

if

you’re

all

sharing!

39Each

person

chooses

the

food

that

he

or

she

wants.

Sharing

isn’t

monly

practiced.

So

it

is

simple

to

pay

for

what

you

ordered.

40.It’s

nice

to

treat

your

friends

to

dinner

sometimes,but

it’s

also

nice

to

be

treated

.

And

when

I’mhavingdinnerwithmyfriendsinthewest,atleastIknow

B.Britishpeopleusuallyliketoeatoutside.C.TheoppositeistruewheneatingoutintheWest.D.I

finally

learned

that

they

were

actually

“fighting

to

pay

the

bill.

E.How

you

pay

the

bill

dependson

how

you

order,

as

well

as

how

you

eat.

F.British

food

culture

usually

implies

that

you

pay

for

whatever

you

ordered.
