Theyfoundthat,forfemales,strongandstablesocialbondsgenerallyledtobetter

healthoutcomes,withfewerillnesses.However,theoppositewastrueinmales—strong

bondswereassociatedwithahigherriskofillness.Surprisingly,thehealthbenefitsof

socialbondsalsodependedongroupsize:Insmallgroups,strongfemalebondsledto

fewerillnessesandlowerbirthrates,whileinlargergroups,theoppositeoccurred.

Theteamalsodiscoveredthattheseeffectscouldnotbeexplainedmerelybythe
