rsationswererecorded.Theanalysisoftheirlaughtershowedacleardistinction.High-statusindividualsconsistentlyproducedwhatwasclassifiedas“dominantlaughter”—characterizedbybeinglouder,morevariableinpitch,andlessheldback.Incontrast,low-statusindividualsexhibited“submissivelaughter”—whichwastypicallyquieter,shorter,andmoreconstrained.Inafollow-upexperiment,anothergroupofstudentslistenedtorecordingsoftheselaughs.Withoutanyothercontext,theyconsistentlyidentifiedthe“dominant”laughsasbelongingtoindividualswithmoreinfluenceandpowerwithinthegroup.Thisstudydemonstratesthatlaughterisfarfromasimple,uniformreactiontohumour.Itisarichsocialsignal,deeplywovenintothefabricofourrelationshipsandstatus.Theactoflaughing,therefore,isnotjustaboutsharingajoke;itisanuancedperformancethatcanbothreflectandreinforceoursocialidentity.Understandingthesciencebehindlaughterhelpsusappreciateitstruepowerinourdailyinteractions.WhatwasthemainobjectiveofChristopherOveis’s2016ToprovethatlaughterisauniversalToinvestigatethelinkbetweenlaughterandsocialToteachpeoplehowtouselaughtertobuildsocialTocomparethelaughterfrequenciesofdifferentsocialWhatdoestheunderlinedword“constrained”inparagraph2mostprobablyNaturalandControlledandLoudandHappyandWhatdoesthefollow-upexperimentPeoplecanaccuratelydetectsocialstatusfromlaughterMostpeoplepreferthesoundof“dominantThefunninessofajokeislargelyGroupsettingshavelittleeffectonhowpeopleWhatisthebesttitlefortheLaughterastheBestTheRoleofLaughterinSocialTheSocialSecretofTheDifferentTypesofHumanNature’sHiddenLight:TheSecretsofInthedarkestdepthsoftheocean,afascinatingphenomenonoccurs—livingcreaturesproducetheirownlight.Thisability,calledbioluminescence,isnotjustforshow.Itisacomplexandcrucialtoolforsurvival,developedthroughmillionsofyearsofevolution.Scientistsarededicatedtorevealinghowthismysterious“coldlight”works.Thefundamentalprocessbehindthislightisachemicalreaction.Itinvolvesamoleculenamedluciferin(熒光素)andanenzymecalledluciferase.Whenluciferincombineswithoxygen,acceleratedbytheluciferaseenzyme,lightisproduced.Thisprocessishighlyefficientandgeneratesalmostnoheat.Foralongtime,however,theoriginofluciferininmanymarineanimalswasapuzzle.Weretheymakingitthemselves,orgettingitfromtheirdiet?AmajorbreakthroughcamefromtheworkofDr.OsamuShimomura.Inthe1960s,heconductedalong-termstudyfocusedonaspecifictypeofjellyfish.Throughextensiveandcommittedexperiments,histeammanagedtoisolatetwokeyproteins:onethatproducesbluelightandthefamousgreenfluorescentprotein(GFP).Thisfoundationalwork,whichlaterearnedhimaNobelPrize,providedtheessentialbasisforfutureresearch.ThequestionofwhereluciferincomesfromwasfurtheraddressedbyDr.StevenHaddockandhisteam.Ina2018project,theyemployedadvancedunderwaterrobotstogatherandexaminenumerousdeep-seaorganisms.Theiranalysisshowedthatmanydifferentspeciessharedthesameluciferin.Thissignificantfindingsuggestedthattheseanimalswerenotproducingthemoleculeinternally.Instead,theywerelikelyobtainingitthroughtheirdiet,creatingahiddennetworkwherethisvitalsubstanceistransferredthroughthefoodchain.Therevelationofthesenaturalsecretshasprofoundlytransformedmodernscience.TheGFPprotein,forinstance,hasbecomeanessentialtoolinbiologyandmedicine.ByattachingtheGFPgenetoothergenes,scientistscannowwitnessandtrackprocesseslikethegrowthofdiseasesorthedevelopmentofnervesinrealtime,turninganaturalwonderintoapowerfulscientificasset.WhatwasthemaingoalofDr.Shimomura’sTofindnewspeciesofjellyfishinthedeepToprovethatbioluminescencecouldbeusedforToidentifyandseparatetheglowingproteinsfromaTostudytheeatinghabitsofbioluminescentWhatmayDr.Haddock’steamagreeAllmarineorganismshavethesamegenestoproduceItispassedalongthefoodchainwhenanimalseateachTheluciferinisproducedbyunderwaterSunlighttriggersitsproductioninthedeepWhatisamajorapplicationofGFPinscientificresearchItservesasaprimaryfoodsourceinIthelpsgenerateheatforchemicalItenablesthevisualtrackingofbiologicalItisusedtocreatedecorativelightsforWhatistheauthor’sprimarypurposeinwritingthisToencouragetourismtoseebioluminescentTodescribethecareerpathsoffamousToexplainthesciencebehindanaturalwonderanditsresearchToarguethatalldeep-seacreaturespossesshigh第二節(jié)(52.512.5分Intheheartofbustlingcities,agreenrevolutionisquietlytakingplace.Rooftops,balconies,andevensmallcommunitygardensarebeingtransformedintoproductivespacesforgrowingfood.Thismovement,knownasurbanfarming,isnotjustaboutproducingfreshvegetables.36Oneofthemostimmediatebenefitsofurbanfarmingisaccesstofresh,nutritiousfood.37Thismeansvegetablescanbeharvestedattheirpeakripeness,retainingmorenutrientsandflavorthanstore-boughtalternativesthatmayhavetraveledlongdistances.38Tendingtoplants,evenforashorttimeeachday,hasbeenshowntoreducestressandimprovemood.Thephysicalactivityinvolvedingardeningalsoprovidesgentleexercise,whichbenefitsbothphysicalandmentalhealth.Urbanfarmsalsoplayasurprisingroleinprotectingcityenvironments.Plantshelptocleantheairbyabsorbingcarbondioxideandotherpollutants.39Thiscanreducetheenergyneededforcoolingbuildingsinsummer.Moreover,thesegreenspacesb
