slowlyraisedhishand.Snickers(偷笑)brokeout,butSam,puzzledbythereaction,stoodup
confidentlyandwalkedtothefront.Withclear;steadysteps,hesolvedtheproblem
perfectly.Theclasswatchedinsilence,theneruptedinawaveofapplauseasMrs.Johnson
praised-him.
AsSamreturnedtohisseat,Mrs.Johnson'seyesnarrowed.Shehadnoticedthepaper
onhisback.Gently,sheaskedhimtostop.“Sam,there'ssomethingonyourshirt,”she
said,carefullyremovingthenote.Shehelditupfortheclasstosee.Theroomgrewtense.
Leo'sfaceturnedredwithguiltasMrs.Johnsonspoketotheclass.“Beforewediscuss
consequences,"shebegancalmly,“l(fā)et'stalkaboutwhatjusthappened."SheturnedtoSam.
“Youdidn'tknowthiswasthere,didyou?”Samshookhishead,hisexpressionamixof
confusionandhurt.
Mrs.Johnsonaddressedtheclass.“Today,twoimportantlessonswererevealed.First,
inlife,peoplemaytrytolabelyouwithhurtfulwords.IfSamhadknownaboutthislabel,he
mighthavedoubtedhimselfandneversteppedforward.Remember:youmustneverlet
