3、bilityproblems.DrawingonoveradecadeofX-analysisintegration(XAI)researchanddevelopment,itusestheXAImulti-representationarchitecture(MRA)asameanstodecomposetheproblemandguideidentificationofpotentialkeymetrics.Afewsuchmetricsarehighlightedfromtheaerospaceindustry.Theseincludenumberofstructuralanalysis

4、users,numberofanalysistemplates,andidentificationofcomputingenvironmentcomponents(e.g.,numberofCADandCAEtoolsusedinanexampleaerospaceelectronicsdesignenvironment).Oneproblem,denotedthefine-grainedassociativitygap,ishighlightedinparticular.TodaysuchagapintheCAD-CAEarenatypicallyrequiresmanualeffortto

5、connectanattributeinadesignmodel(CAD)withattributesinoneofitsanalysismodels(CAE).Thisstudyestimatesthat1millionsuchgapsexistinthestructuralanalysisofacomplexproductlikeanairframe.Thelaborcostalonetomanuallymaintainsuchgapslikelyrunsinthetensofmillionsofdollars.Otherassociativitygapcostshaveyettobees

6、timated,includingover-andunder-design,lackofknowledgecapture,andinconsistencies.Narrowinginonfundamentalgapslikefine-grainedassociativityhelpsbothtocharacterizethecostoftodaysproblemsandtoidentifybasicsolutionneeds.Otherstudiesarerecommendedtoexploresuchfacetsfurther.Afullreportversionisavailableher
