OnAugust27,20--,attheCentralInstituteoftheDatangTelecomTechnologyandIndustryGroupbasedinBeijing,ayoungwoman,fullofenergyandself-confidence,wasgivingapresentationentitled“TheDesignoftheSwitchingNumericalMethodoftheRadioResourceManagement(RRM)StrategyinTD-SCDMA,andtheTestingofItsSimulatedSystems,”whichreceivedraptattentionandhighremarksfromallthee-pertsinComputerandTelecommunicationswhoattendedthemeeting.ThatwomanwasI.Atpresent,TD-SCDMA,W-CDMA,andCDMA20--areconsideredthemaintechnologicalstandardsinthethirdgenerationoftheworld’stechnologicaldevelopmentinmobiletelecommunications.AndthedesignofaswitchingcomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategyisakeyelementandtechnologicalcru-fortheTD-SCDMAtechnology.Inretrospection,Ifoundthatitwasmygreatenthusiasmformobiletelecommunications,andmypersistentpursuitofaccuracyandperfectionthathavehelpedmewinaccoladesfromcolleaguesande-perts.
InChina,sincetheTD-SCDMAusesasmartantenna,itmakesademandforafinerresearchonthecomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategy,inareassuchasPC,DCA,andHC.Tome,anewstarterinthecompany,itwasarealchallenge.Sincetheresearchteamwasnew,itlackedengineeringdataandpracticale-perience,althoughtheequipmentofthelabwasquiteadvanced.Itwasonlyaftermuchlibraryresearch,thinking,andconsultationwithe-pertsdidIfindaRRMcomputationmethodsuitableforasmartantenna.BecauseasmartantennahasitsadvantagesofamoreaccurateVElocatingandreducedsearchingareas,thiscomputationmethodeffectivelylowersthecomple-ityoftheswitchingprocessanditsfailurerate.DuringthetimewhenIworkedfortheproject,Ioftenstayedupseveraldaysinarolltoperfectalabtest.ButIalsoderivedanenormoussenseofsatisfactionandfulfillmentafterovercomingobstacles,whichmorethancompensatedthepainsanddifficultiesthatIhadtogothrough.
Therapiddevelopmentofmobiletelecommunicationtechnologyplacesahighdemandonprofessionalsworkinginthisfield.Toacertaine-tent,ithastobealaboroflove.Mykeeninterestinmobiletelecommunicationsemanatedfromtheconceptof“personalcommunication.”DuringmyundergraduateyearsattheNorthwestUniversityofIndustry,Ispentmuchofmysparetimebrowsingoverprofessionalpublicationsandjournals,tokeepmyselfabreastofcurrentdevelopments.Theconceptof“personalcommunication”Iencounteredduringthisprocessimpressedmeimmensely.Asystemof“personalcommunication”isonethatallowstheusertocommunicateatanytime,anyplace,toanyone,andinanyway.ItpaintedsuchabeautifulofpictureofafuturesocietythatIbecamefullyconvincedthatitisasubjectwellworthmylifelongpursuit.ThiswaswhyIchoseMobileTelecommunicationsasmyareaofspecializationinthegraduateprogram.Asagraduatestudent,Icompletedseveralresearchprojectsindependentlyandsuccessfully,including,forinstance,“TurboCodeandtheApplicationofItsCodingConcept.”Inshortframeconditions,theTurboCode,withitsimprovedapplicationinengineering,seemstohaveabrightfutureinreal-timevoice-dataservice(Pleaseseetheattachedarticle).Aftercompletingmygraduatedegree,IenteredDatangGroup,apioneerinChina’ssoftwaredevelopment.HereIdidsoftwaredesignfortheswitchcontroltemplateusedattheRNCequipmentfortheTD-SCDMAsystem,anddevelopedaswitchingcomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategy.IwentthroughtheentireprocessofsoftwaredesignfortheswitchcontroltemplatefortheRNCequipment,fromtopicanalysistotheprojectoutlineandthentoactualprogramwriting.
Thepresentdevelopmentoftelecommunicationtechnologyindicatesthatthesmartantenna,softwareradio,andthetransmissiontechnologyofsubline下行high-speedsubdividede-changedata(下行高速分組交換數(shù)據(jù)傳輸技術(shù))arekeytechnologiesfortoday’smobiletelecommunications.Softwareradio,inparticular,hasattractedmuchpublicattention.TheuseofDSPandsoftwaretosolvetheproblemofwirelessinterfacesofdiversestandardsonapublichardwareplatformhasbecomeamajorissuepursuedbymanyprofessionalsinourfield.Itoohopetomakemyowncontributiontothetechnologicaldevelopmentinthisarea.Inthene-tfewyears,thetraditionalconceptofusingchipstobuildwirelessequipmentformobiletelecommunicationwillbeseriouslychallenged.Inrecentyears,thetechnologiesandstandardsofthethirdgenerationofmobiletelecommunicationhavebeenrapidlyupdated.Softwareradio,Ibelieve,willbethefutureofourtrade.
Mydesiretoknowmoreaboutcomputerengineeringpromptedmetoriseabovemypresentconditions.TheUnitedStates,astechnologicalsuperpower,havefirst-rateteachingfacultyandresearchfacilitiesintheworld.ItsideologicalopennessandtolerancemakeasharpcontrasttoChineseculture,whichtendstovaluetraditionratherthaninnovation.Wirelesstelecommunicationmaybesaidtobeoneofthenewestresearchareas,anditisnewconceptsandnewvisionthatgivelifetotheindustry.IbelievethatinthefineresearchenvironmentintheUnitedStates,Iwillbeabletomake“shortcuts”inattainingmyacademicandcareergoals.
IwouldliketoapplyforadmissiontotheCenterforWirelessTelecommunicationsofVirginiaPolytechnicInstituteandStateUniversity.AsthemostprestigiousresearchinstituteinWirelessTelecommunications,theCenterhasalargenumberoffamedscholarsandprofessionalsdedicatedtothetheoreticresearchofWirelessTelecommunications.Meanwhile,itmaintainsclosecontactwiththetelecommunicationindustry,andinthiswaycantestthetheoryinpracticale-perimentation,whichinturnpromotestheoreticresearch.Itisanidealplaceformetofullydevelopmyresearchpotential.
IlookforwardtofindingateachingpositionatcollegelevelinChinaaftercompletingmygraduateeducation,whichwillallowmetocontinuemyresearchworkinWirelessTelecommunications.Iwillimpartmytheoreticandpracticalknowledgetomystudents,andhopethatthiswillbenefitChina’swirelesstelecommunicationindustry,andsocietyatlarge.Iwillmakeeveryefforttomaketheideaof“personalcommunication”areality.
