從MonaBaker敘事理論看嚴(yán)復(fù)《天演論》譯本的重構(gòu)翻譯的中期報(bào)告IntroductionMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryisanessentialtheorywhenitcomestounderstandingthetranslationprocess.Thetheoryprovidesdifferenttypesofnarrativesandtheirsignificanceincreatingmeaningintranslation.Thetheoryemphasizesonhownarrativestrategies,plot,andnarrativeperspectiveimpactthereader'sunderstandingofthetext.Thispaperpresentsamid-termreportofthereconstructiontranslationofYanFu's'TienYienLun'usingMonaBaker'sNarrativetheory.BackgroundThereconstructionofYanFu's'TienYienLun'aimstoimprovetheoriginaltranslatedtexttomeetthecurrentlinguisticstandards.YanFu'stranslation,whichwasdonein1895,wasthefirstattempttotranslateDarwin's'OriginofSpecies'intoChinese.ThoughYanFu'stranslationwassignificantandessential,ithadsomedeficiencies,suchasinadequatelinguisticexpressions,oversimplifications,anddistortionsofthescientificterms.Therefore,thisreconstructionaimstorefineandimprovetheinadequatelinguisticexpressionsandscientificterms.MethodologyThereconstructionfollowedtheTranslationAnalysisandRe-creationProcess(TARP)proposedbyKuo(2017).TheTARPmodelinvolvesthefollowingsteps:analysisofthesourcetext(ST)andtargettext(TT),translationandre-creationoftheTT,andevaluationofthere-createdTT.Inthisstudy,theTARPmodelwasadaptedtofitMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryapproach.NarrativestrategiesMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryarguesthatnarrativescreatemeaningintranslations.Theapproachcategorizesnarrativesintofourbroadstrategies:labelling,focalization,symbolism,andnarrativeframes.Thesestrategieshelpthereaderunderstandthetextandconveythemeaningappropriately.LabellingYanFu'stranslationhadsomedeficiencies,mainlyduetotheinadequatelinguisticexpressionsused.TheinitialanalysisoftheSTidentifiedYanFu'suseofinappropriatelanguagethatdidnotconveytheintendedmeaning.MonaBaker'stheorysuggeststhatlabellingisoneofthesignificantstrategiesincreatingmeaningintranslations.Theapproacharguesthatthedescriptionsinthenarrationwillbehelpfuliflabelledusingappropriatelanguage.Therefore,inthereconstruction,theinadequatelinguisticexpressionsusedinYanFu'stranslationwereidentifiedandreplacedwithappropriateexpressionsinthere-createdTT.FocalizationMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryarguesthatfocalizationreferstothepointofviewthroughwhichthenarrativeisconveyed.IntheYanFutranslation,thescientist'spointofviewwasnotwell-putinmostcases.Thereconstructionaimedtoimprovethepresentationofthescientist'spointofviewintheTT.Usingfocalization,thescientificperspectivewascarefullyconsidered,andthenarrativewaspresentedcoherently,inlinewiththeactualscientificrepresentations.SymbolismMonaBakerNarrativeTheorysuggeststhatsymbolismisrelatedtoallegoryandmetaphorinterpretation.Thisapproacharguesthatinterpretingsymbolismcanbeessentialinconveyingaccuratemeaningintranslations.InYanFu'stranslation,thescientifictermswereoversimplified,whichcreatedachallengeinunderstandingthemeaning.Throughsymbolism,thescientifictermswereexplainedwithoutoversimplification,ensuringthatthereadersunderstoodthemeaningappropriately.NarrativeFramesThenarrativeframesapproachinvolvesthepresentationofnarrativeintheformofastorywithinastory.IntheYanHu'stranslation,thescienceconceptswerenotexplainedsystematically,whichcreatedachallengeinunderstandingthescientificconcept.Usingthenarrativeframesstrategy,thereconstructionpresentedthescientificconceptsystematically,providingthereaderswithanunderstandableandcoherentnarrative.ConclusionInconclusion,MonaBakerNarrativeTheoryprovidesanessentialapproachintranslationreconstruction.ThereconstructionofYanFu's'TienYienLun'usingMonaBaker'sNarrativeTheoryhasprovidedascientificapproachinpresentingthetranslationtomeetthecurrentlinguisticstandards.MonaBakerNarrativeTheoryapproachhasplayedasi
