Thenewfindingsstresstheneedforgovernmentsaroundtheworld,in
particulartheindustrializedFirstWorldcountriesthatareresponsiblefor
morethan80%ofpastemissionsand75%currently,totakeurgentactionto
massivelyreducetheworld'sindustrialgreenhousegasemissionsby60-80%.
RajendraPachauri,chairpersonoftheUnitedNations,Intergovernmental
PanelonClimateChange(IPCC),whichpoolstheexpertiseofmorethan
2,000oftheworld'sclimatescientists,warnedonOctober25thatthe
greenhousegasemissionreductiontargetsestablishedinthe1997Kyoto
agreementdonotgofarenoughandfarmoreradicalsolutionsmustbefound.
