ScientistsinNorwayhavecreatedanunderwaterrobotthatcandiscoverdifferentkindsofpollutionatthebottomofthesea.Therobotwillhelpclean-upteamsdiscovertheareaswherethereisrubbish,sotheycanthenfocustheirtimeandmoneyonremovingthemostharmfulmaterials.
Therobot,whichweighs45kgandusesspecialcamerastoget3Dimages,wascreatedbyateamatSkarvTechnologies.
Theresearchersputtheirworktothetestatabay(海灣)inthecityofBergen,onNorway’ssouthwestcoast.First,therobotswamupanddowntwometersabovetheseabed,collectingdata.Thenacomputerwasusedtoturnthedataintoamap,whichshoweddifferentrubbishmaterialsindifferentcolors.Themapswillbeusedtohelptheteamsofdiverswhocleanuptheseabedlocatethemostharmfulmaterialssothattheycanremovethemfirst.
“Glassisn’treallypolluting,”saysFossum,oneintheSkarvTechnologiesteam.“Soifyouknowthere’sanareawithalotofglass,youprobablydon’tneedtoworryaboutthatandcanfocusonthingsthatareputtingheavymetalsintotheenvironment.”

TheCambridgeUniversityLibraryhadseveralofMr.Darwin’snotebooks.Thetwothatweremissingwerekeptinasmallbox.Theywerelastseenin2000whentheyweretakenouttobephotographed(拍照).In2001,someonenoticedthattheboxwasmissing.Luckily,thelibraryhadtakenpicturesofthenotebooks’pages,sotheinformationwasn’tcompletelylost.
In2020,thelibrarymadeagreatefforttofindthelostnotebooks.Workerssearchedthroughthe10millionbooksinthelibrarybutdidn’tfindthem.Finally,thelibraryaskedpeoplearoundtheworldtohelplookforthebooks.Theyalsoreportedthemissingnotebookswerestolensothatthepolicewouldsearchforthem,too.
Tothelibrarians’surprise,thetwonotebookswerereturnedonMarch9,2022.Theywereputinabrightbagandleftoutsidethelibrarians’office.Afterthepolicehadexaminedthebag,thelibrariansopeneditandwerepleasedtolearnthatthenotebookswereingoodshape.Theyhadn’tbeendamaged(毀壞),andtheyhadn’tlostanypages.(
