1.prefer的基本意思是“較喜愛(ài),更喜愛(ài)”,多指在兩個(gè)或兩個(gè)以上的選項(xiàng)中優(yōu)先選擇其中的一項(xiàng),多用于“prefer...to...”或“prefer...ratherthan”結(jié)構(gòu),相當(dāng)于likebetter或placebeforetheothers,因此不能用more或most來(lái)修飾它。引申可表示為“寧可”“寧愿”等。

2.prefer也可作“提出”解,多指提出聲明、懇求、控訴等,常與介詞against連用,是正式用語(yǔ)。

3.prefer間或還可作“提升”“提拔”解,作此解時(shí)常與介詞to連用,常用于被動(dòng)結(jié)構(gòu)。

4.prefer只用作及物動(dòng)詞,可接名詞、代詞、動(dòng)名詞、動(dòng)詞不定式作賓語(yǔ),也可接that從句,從句中的謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞一般需用現(xiàn)在時(shí)的虛擬語(yǔ)氣,但當(dāng)prefer前有should〔would〕時(shí),其后從句可不必用虛擬式。prefer接動(dòng)詞不定式作賓語(yǔ)時(shí),還可后接insteadofv-ing。prefer還可接以動(dòng)詞不定式或形容詞、過(guò)去分詞充當(dāng)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)的復(fù)合賓語(yǔ),用作賓語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)的動(dòng)詞不定式可帶to,也可不帶to。

5.prefer在不能確定被否定的事物而需征求對(duì)方的看法時(shí),用連接詞or連接兩種供選擇的事物或行為。

6.prefer與ratherthan連用,接兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞不定式時(shí),其次個(gè)動(dòng)詞不定式?？梢允÷詔o,間或也可改用動(dòng)名詞。在書(shū)面語(yǔ)中,也可把rather提到第一個(gè)動(dòng)詞不定式前面。假如兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞不定式相同,而附加修飾成分不同,則可省去動(dòng)詞不定式,只保留附加的修飾成分。在特殊強(qiáng)調(diào)時(shí),名詞前也可用ratherthan。

prefer后可接動(dòng)詞不定式,也可接動(dòng)名詞。其區(qū)分在于：接動(dòng)詞不定式時(shí)表示特定時(shí)刻或特定狀況下的愛(ài)好,接動(dòng)名詞則表示一般狀況下的愛(ài)好或日常愛(ài)好。

這兩個(gè)詞都有“喜愛(ài)”的意思。其區(qū)分在于：
