那位記者對這次競賽的獲勝者進行了采訪。19-year-old是復合形容詞,它由“數(shù)詞+名詞(單數(shù))+形容詞”構(gòu)成,而且三者之間要用“-”來連接,它用在名詞前作定語。e.g.Tonyisa18-year-oldyoungman.

“害羞;靦腆”,是不可數(shù)名詞,是由“shy(adj.)+ness(后綴)”構(gòu)成。名詞后綴-ness,通常放在形容詞后,構(gòu)成抽象名詞。類似的單詞還有:carelessness粗心

tiredness疲勞;疲倦kindness仁慈,親切,和藹

darkness黑暗Asshegotbetter,shedaredtosinginfrontofherclass,andthenforthewholeschool.(教材P27)darev.“敢于;膽敢”,通常不用于進行時態(tài)。dare作實義動詞時后面跟動詞不定式(to+v.)作賓語,有人稱和數(shù)以及時態(tài)的變化。構(gòu)成疑問句和否定句時常借助助動詞do。e.g.Dowedareaskwhy?=Dareweaskwhy?

未經(jīng)允許閱讀別人的私人信件是不對的。

不再e.g.I’msorryIwon’tthrowtherubbisheverywhereanymore.=I’msorryInomorethrowtherubbisheverywhere.對不起我再也不會把垃圾到處扔了。辨析:not...anymore與not...anylongernot...anymore=nomore一般修飾短暫性動詞,表示動作發(fā)生的次數(shù)、頻率不再延續(xù)。not...anylonger=nolonger一般修飾延續(xù)性動詞,表示動作、狀態(tài)或時間不再延續(xù)。e.g.Idon’tdoyogaanymore.

我不再做瑜伽了。

他不再住在這里了。⑥Hangingoutwithfriendsisalmostimpossibleformenowbecausetherearealwaysguardsaroundme.(教材P27)這句話用到了動名詞短語作主語。動名詞(短語)作主語多用來表示泛指或習慣的動作。(不定式也可以作主語,表示特指或具體的動作。)e.g.Smokingisnotgoodforhealth.

吸煙對健康沒有好處。

要在一天之內(nèi)完成這項工作是不可能的。hangout“(和某人)在一起;閑逛”,其過去式和過去分詞均為hung。e.g.Hespentacoupleofdayshangingoutwithhisoldfriends.

他和幾個老朋友待了兩天。

LastSaturdaymyfriendandIhungoutintheshoppingcenter.上周六我和朋友在購物中心閑逛。Youcanneverimaginehowdifficulttheroadtosuccessis.

(教材P27)theroadtosuccess“通向成功的路”,其中to是介詞,后面跟名詞或v.-ing形式。theroadtosth.是英語的一種固定表達方式,此處road并非指真實的“道路”,屬于修辭手法,意指“途徑;通道”。它可以獨立使用,承擔句子的主語、賓語等。但更多時候,theroadto...會與系動詞be及其他一些行為動詞搭配,構(gòu)成tobeon/alongtheroadto...等句式,表達出“快速地;不多久”這樣的意思,漢語通常譯作“很快就要......;不久就會......”。e.g.Manyanimalsareontheroadtoextinctionbecauseofhumans.

許多動物因為人類即將滅絕。Youreallyrequirealotoftalentandhardworktosucceed.

需要;要求require的常見搭配有:requiresth.

這個水平的學生需要很多幫助。requiresb.todosth.要求某人做某事e.g.

老師要求湯姆保持安靜。require+that從句(從句的謂語動詞用“should+動詞原形”,should可以省略)e.g.Thelawrequiresthateveryone(should)paythetax.

法律要求人人納稅。Onlyaverysmallnumberofpeoplemakeittothetop.

一小部分e.g.Asmallnumberofstudentswalktoschooleveryday.

一小部分學生每天步行去上學。anumberof短語中number的前面可以加修飾詞small或large來表示數(shù)量的大小。辨析:anumberof與thenumberofanumberof意為“許多;大量”,后面接可數(shù)名詞復數(shù)。作主語時謂語動詞用復數(shù)。thenumberof意為“……的數(shù)量”,后接可數(shù)名詞復數(shù)。作主語時謂語動詞用單數(shù)。e.g.Asmallnumberofchildrenareeducatedathome.

少數(shù)孩子在家接受教育。

Thenumberofthestudentsinourclassis40.
