changedthewaypeoplereadandwriteandmadethediversified
learningmaterialandmethodscometrue,itisnotabletotake
theplaceofbooksandteachers,whichareindispensableto
highereducation.Traditionaleducationinuniversitieswill
stillbeinthedominantposition.Second,universitylifeis
essentialforcollegestudentstoenhancetheirabilitiesof
communicationandsocialadaptability,besidesacquiring
knowledgeandskills.Lastbutnotleast,itisonlyunderthe
standarduniversitymanagementsystemthatthecheckand
evaluationofstudents'achievementcanbeguaranteed.
Inconclusion,theinternetwillnotbearivalofuniversities;
instead,itwillbecomeahelpfulsupplementtotraditional

tendstorunoutontheedgeofacliff-hangermoment.For
another,manybooksareunavailableindigitalformsbecause
ofcopyright.Manyauthorsareunwillingtohavetheir
hard-accomplishedbooksduplicatedanddisseminatedforfree.
Therefore,traditionalbookswillcontinuetoexistdespitethe
risingpopularityofe-books.Areaderwhofallsinlovewith
abookmaystillwanttoownitintheprintedform,evenif
hehadreaditinanelectronicform.
Buildingafactoryinacommunity:shoulditbe
welcomedorrejected?
Itisreportedthatanewfactorywillbebuiltinourcommunity.
Thishascausedmuchdisputeamongtheresidents.
Somepeoplewelcometheplan,regardingitasastimulusfor
theeconomy.Theysaythenewfactorywillprovidenewjobsfor
theresidents,anditwillhelpimproveitsinfrastructure.
However,Iagreewiththeoppositeopinion,thatis,sucha
factoryshouldberejectedinthecommunity.Tobeginwith,the
factorywillcertainlybringmuchpollutiontotheenvironment.

waterandpoisonousgas.Allthesewillaffectourhealth.In

Inaword,Ithinkthedisadvantagesofbuildingafactoryare

shouldrisetorejecttheplan.

Manyuniversitygraduatesnowvolunteertoworkinthe
countryside.Itisreportedthatoncehundredsofuniversity
graduatescompetedwithoneanothertoworkasavillageleader
inBeijing.
Manyfactorshavecontributedtothisphenomenon.First,with
moreandmoreuniversitystudentsgraduatingeachyear,thejob
marketcompetitionbecomesincreasinglyfierce,andmany
graduatescannotfindjobsinthecities.Workinginthe
countrysideisbetterthanbeingjobless.Second,thevillages
thataretryingtoemployuniversitygraduatesaregenerally
intherichareasofthecountry,whichmakesworkingtherean
attractivechoice.Third,someuniversitygraduates,being
fromthecountryside,areeagertogobackhometocontribute
totheconstructionoftheirhometown.Withtheirknowledgeand

Personally,Ithinkuniversitygraduatesshouldgotowork

occasionallyIheardnewsaboutsomecollegestudents
committingsuicide,Isaidtomyself,“Ifonlytheyhad
learnedtogiveup!”
Thedigitalage
Withmoreandmoredigitalproductscomingintouse,weare
enteringthedigitalage.Wehavecomputerstoprocess
documentsatoffices,wewatchdigitalTVprogramsathome,and
welistentoMP3playerswhenwearetravelingonbusesand
trains.Itseemsthatwhateverwedoweuseonedigitalproduct
oranother.
Digitalproductshavefundamentallytransformedourwayofwork,
educationandlife.Tostartwith,thelastdecadeshave
witnessedimmensechangesintheworkplaceowingtotheadvent
ofcomputers.Thejobsofbook-keepers,typists,copymachine
operatorshavebeenvaporizedbydigitalcomputersandatthe
sametime,computer-relatedjobshavegrownofindramatically
largenumbers,accordingtotheBureauofLaborStatistics.
What'smore,newdigitaltechnologieshavemadepossible”a
learningrevolution”ineducation.Itisnosurprisetosee
studentssitinmulti-mediaclassroomswatchinglectures
withoutalecturestandingontheplatform.Oneofthemost
fundamentalchangesthathavetakenplaceishowourleisure
timeisspent.WelistentotheradioandMP3musiconourway,
watchTVprogramsthenextdaythroughMSN,anonlinechatting
software.Whenwetravel,wetakeadigitalcamerawithus.It
ishardtoimaginealifewithoutdigitalproductsnow.
Admititornot,justasadvancesinbiotechnologieschanged
thewaywefarm,digitalproductshavealteredoutdailylife
entirely.
OnOpeningPsychologicalCourses
Manyuniversitiesandcollegeshavenowdecidedtoopenmore
psychologicalcoursestotheirstudents.Thisistotally
advisableandhasbeenwarmlywelcomed.
Inthefirstplace,psychologicalcoursesareinurgentneed

toimaginehowamancanlivewithoutthehelpofstrangers,
becausenearlyeverythingheusesismadebyothers.Onthe
otherhand,wetakedelightinhelpingothers.Wefeelgreat
joywhenwearetrustedandneededbyothers.
Inaword,Icontendthatweshouldhelpothers.Atthesame
time,weshouldalsolearntoprotectourselvesfrombeing
harmed.
ThePostgraduateCraze
Presently,thereisaso-called^postgraduatecraze“inchina.
Millionsofpeople,mostofwhomareuniversitystudents,take
partintheyearlypostgraduateentranceexamination.Theydo
sofordifferentreasons.Firstofall,thefiercecompetition
inthejobmarketsuggeststhatmanyuniversitystudentswill
bejoblesswhentheygraduate.Postgraduatestudywillnotonly
enablethemtostayawayfromthepressureofthejobmarket
foracoupleofyears,butincanalsomakethembetterprepared
fortheirfuturecareer.
Secondly,moreandmorepeoplerealizetheimportanceof
updatingtheirknowledgeintheageofinformationexplosion.
Manypeople,thoughwithdecentjobsandhighincomes,areeager
togobacktoschoolandundertakepostgraduatestudies.
Lastly,manypeoplearenotsatisfiedwiththeirpresentjobs
andtheyhopepostgraduatestudieswillbringthem
opportunitiestoimprovetheirsocialstatusandliving
conditions.
Thepostgraduatecrazereflectsmanysocialproblems.Ithink
boththegovernmentandalluniversitiesmustgetpreparedfor
itsfutureimpact.
