downhillcompetitors,andEdwardsdidn'tqualify.Seeinghischanceelsewhere,he

switchedtoskijumping.Skijumpingdidn'tcostnearlyasmuch,andtherewas

almostnocompetitionforaplaceontheBritainteam.

Butanumberofhurdles(障石導(dǎo))couldhavemeanttheendofEdwards'dream.

Heweighedmorethanmostcompetitors,whichputhimatadisadvantage.Hehad

nofinancialsupportforhi,training.Pooreyesightmeantthathehadtowearglasses

underhisgoggles(護(hù)R鏡)-notagoodthingwhentheysteamedupathighaltitudes.

Buthecouldn'tletanyofthisdiscouragehim.Hesawhimselfasatrueloverofthe

sportwhosimplywantedthechancetocompete.Winningwasn'tthepoint.Having

theopportunitytotrywasallhecaredabout.Andnothingcouldstophimfrom

trying.

Intheend,Edwardstook55thplaceinthe1987WorldChampionships.Hethen
