ThanksgivingDayCultureandLanguageLanguageiscloselyrelatedtoculture.Languageexpressesandembodiesculturalreality.Ifweareindifferentcountries,wemustknowtheircultures,thus,wecanusethelanguagefreely.Ontheotherhand,language,asaproductofculture,helpsperpetuatetheculture,andthechangesinlanguageusesreflecttheculturechangesinreturn.GeneralIdeaThanksgivingDayisthemosttrulyAmericanofthenationalHolidaysintheUnitedStatesandismostcloselyconnectedwiththeearliesthistoryofthecountry.ThanksgivingDayisaharvestfestival.Traditionally,itisatimetogivethanksfortheharvestandexpressgratitudeingeneral.ItisaholidaycelebratedprimarilyinCanadaandtheUnitedStates.Whilereligiousinorigin,Thanksgivingisnowalsoidentifiedasasecularholiday.ThedateandlocationofthefirstThanksgivingcelebrationisatopicofmodestcontention.ThoughtheearliestattestedThanksgivingcelebrationwasonSeptember8,1565inwhatisnowSaintAugustine,Florida,thetraditional"firstThanksgiving"isveneratedashavingoccurredatthesiteofPlymouthPlantation,in1621.Today,ThanksgivingiscelebratedonthefourthThursdayofNovemberintheUnitedStatesandonthesecondMondayofOctoberinCanada.Thanksgivingdinnerisheldonthisday,usuallyasagatheringoffamilymembersandfriends.Mostpeoplecelebratebygatheringathomewithfamilyorfriendsforaholidayfeast.Thoughtheholiday'soriginscanbetracedtoharvestfestivalswhichhavebeencelebratedinmanyculturessinceancienttimes,theAmericanholidayhasreligiousundertonesrelatedtothedeliveranceoftheEnglishsettlersbyNativeAmericansaftertheharshwinteratPlymouth,Massachusetts.HistoryIn1620,thesettlers,orPilgrims,theysailedtoAmericaontheMayflower,seekingaplacewheretheycouldhavefreedomofworship.Afteratempestuoustwo-monthvoyagetheylandedatinicyNovember,whatisnowPlymouth(普利茅斯),Massachusetts(塞州).Duringtheirfirstwinter,overhalfofthesettlersdiedofstarvationorepidemics.Thosewhosurvivedbegansowinginthefirstspring.Allsummerlongtheywaitedfortheharvestswithgreatanxiety,knowingthattheirlivesandthefutureexistenceofthecolonydependedontheingharvest.Finallythefieldsproducedayieldrichbeyondexpectations.AndthereforeitwasdecidedthatadayofthanksgivingtotheLordbefixed.Yearslater,PresidentoftheUnitedStatesproclaimedthefourthThursdayofNovemberasThanksgivingDayeveryyear.ThecelebrationofThanksgivingDayhasbeenobservedonthatdateuntiltoday.TheFirstThanksGivingHowtoCelebrateintheUSAThepatternoftheThanksgivingcelebrationhasneverchangedthroughtheyears.Thebigfamilydinnerisplannedmonthsahead.Onthedinnertable,peoplewillfindapple、orange、chestnut(栗子)、walnut()、grapeandsquash(南瓜).Therewillbeplumpudding、mincepie(碎肉餡餅)andcranberrysauce(小紅莓醬)andothervarietiesoffood.
