摘要 赫爾曼麥爾維爾是美國(guó)浪漫主義時(shí)期最著名的作家之一。白鯨是他的代 表作。這部小說(shuō)的主人公是亞哈船長(zhǎng)。由于亞哈船長(zhǎng)是這部經(jīng)典作品中的主要人 物，且個(gè)性復(fù)雜，因此有很大的研究空間。盡管已經(jīng)有很多人運(yùn)用不同的文學(xué)批 評(píng)方法從歷史、宗教、哲學(xué)、地理、種族、資本主義的本質(zhì)等方面對(duì)它進(jìn)行了研 究，但筆者認(rèn)為原型批評(píng)是解讀這個(gè)人物的絕佳視角，因?yàn)樽髌分写嬖诖罅吭?引用和原型暗示。 本文以弗雷澤、榮格、弗萊的原型理論為依據(jù)的。傳統(tǒng)觀點(diǎn)認(rèn)為，亞哈船長(zhǎng) 是個(gè)病態(tài)、瘋狂的形象。但通過(guò)對(duì)圣經(jīng)中亞哈國(guó)王與亞哈船長(zhǎng)的比較，通過(guò) 對(duì)悲劇英雄的性格特征、母題、暗示、敘述模式與亞哈船長(zhǎng)的對(duì)照，發(fā)現(xiàn)亞哈船 長(zhǎng)在各方面均與悲劇英雄的特征非常吻合。此外，本文通過(guò)系統(tǒng)地運(yùn)用原型批評(píng) 的方法對(duì)其重新解讀，旨在將曲解的亞哈船長(zhǎng)還原成一位有王者風(fēng)范的悲劇英 雄。在悲劇英雄的事跡中，追尋、復(fù)仇和預(yù)言是永恒的母題，而在亞哈的事跡中 這些母題始終是伴隨他的。亞哈船長(zhǎng)對(duì)白鯨的不懈追尋，是以復(fù)仇為根本動(dòng)因的， 而費(fèi)達(dá)拉、以利亞、皮普等人的預(yù)言魔咒般逐一應(yīng)驗(yàn)。在悲劇英雄的世界中， 陰影和曼荼羅是最覺(jué)的原型暗示。而他們?cè)趤喒L(zhǎng)的事跡中也反復(fù)出現(xiàn)。自鯨 就是亞哈船長(zhǎng)的陰影而曼荼羅則通過(guò)生與死、善與惡的對(duì)立統(tǒng)一、相輔相生中得 以實(shí)現(xiàn)。對(duì)亞哈船長(zhǎng)的故事以他失去一條腿，遠(yuǎn)離家人準(zhǔn)備復(fù)仇之行開(kāi)始，這意 味著災(zāi)難的開(kāi)始。途中，他如國(guó)王一樣生活在船上，享受至高無(wú)尚的權(quán)力。他多 次經(jīng)歷了路過(guò)輪船的善意勸告，那是來(lái)自己上帝的愛(ài)；經(jīng)歷了內(nèi)心對(duì)自己行為的 反思，這是他最順意的時(shí)候。然后，他沒(méi)有抓住這些機(jī)會(huì)，以死亡告終。這是倒 u 字型敘述模式，典型的悲劇敘述模式。論文分為四章。第一章簡(jiǎn)明扼要地介紹 了本文的研究目的、研究意義、研究方法及研究的局限性。第二章是文獻(xiàn)綜述， 回顧了與本文相關(guān)的理論，包括詹姆斯弗雷澤、卡爾榮格和諾索普弗萊的原 型理論和尼采、亞里士多德關(guān)于悲劇英雄發(fā)展的理論和對(duì)亞哈船長(zhǎng)這一經(jīng)典形象 的傳統(tǒng)解讀。第三章是對(duì)本文論點(diǎn)的系統(tǒng)闡述，運(yùn)用原型批評(píng)的方法論證亞哈船 長(zhǎng)是位悲劇英雄第四章是本文的總結(jié)，由分析得出結(jié)論，亞哈船長(zhǎng)是一位悲劇性 的、具有原型意義的英雄。 關(guān)鍵詞：白鯨：亞哈：原型批評(píng)：悲劇英雄 i i i ab s t r a c t h e r m a nm e l v i l l ei so n eo ft h eg r e a t e s tr o m a n t i c i s t si nt h ea m e r i c a nl i t e r a r y h i s t o r ya n dm o b yd i c ki sh i sr e p r e s e n t a t i v em a s t e r p i e c et h a ti sa b o u tt h eu n r e m i t t i n g p u r s u i to ft h em y s t e r i o u sw h i t ew h a l e -
