Girls began to gather by the starting line. One of them is a young, little girl. She had prepared for this running race for the whole summer. She looked around at the other girls, noticing how she was different. There was a break in the silence, and everyone started to run. After about twenty-five minutes, every runner finished the race except the girl. She was still running for the next forty minutes. As she came near the finishing line, she saw her parents, classmates and the coach. They shouted her name and told her not to stop until the end. The sweat (汗水) was flowing down her face. She kept on running until she crossed the line. I was that girl, and that was the first time I had finished a cross-country race (越野賽跑). Finishing this race made me realize that I could do anything with my own strength. After that, I took more hard work to practice running. I was not a natural-born runner, but I want to become one. I continued to struggle (努力) with every run. Now I run much faster than before and become more and more confident. (6分)閱讀理解Have you ever had the strange feeling that you were being watched? You turn around and ,sure enough, someone was looking right at you!Parapsychologists(靈學(xué)家) say that humans have a natural ability to sense when someone is looking at them. To research whether such a “ six sense” really exists, Robert Baker, a psychologist(心理學(xué)家) at the University of Kentucky, did two experiments. In the first one, Baker sat behind unknowing people in public places and stared at the backs of their heads for 5 to 15 minutes. The subjects (受試者) were eating, drinking, reading, studying, watching TV, or working at a computer. Baker made sure that the people could not tell that he was sitting behind them during those periods. Later when he questioned the subjects, almost all of them said they had no sense that someone was staring at them. For the second experiment, Baker told the subjects that they would be stared at from time to time from behind in a laboratory setting. The people had to write down when they felt they being stared at and when they werent. Baker found the subjects were no better at telling when they were stared at and when they werent.Baker concludes that people do not have the ability to sense when they are being stared at. If people doubt the outcome of his two experiments, said Baker, “I suggest they repeat the experiments and see for themselves.”(1)Whats the aim of the two experiments for? A . Prove why humans have a sixth sense.B . explain when people can have a sixth senseC . show how people act while being watched in the lab.D . study whether humans can sense when they are stared at.(2)What sense does parapsychologists say that humans have ? Its a nice surprise.E. Aliens take over._ Yasmine Bleeth acts as Jackie Ivers, a Los Angeles nurse who moves back to her hometown, San Vicente, California. She soon notices that her friends and family are acting strangely. She realizes that everyone who goes into the towns lake comes out acting differently._ Jackie figures out whats going on. Aliens live on another planet. Its like Earth, but its polluted, so the aliens cant live there much longer. They are planning to replace people on Earth, and they enter Earth through the lake. When someone goes into the lake, an alien takes over that persons body._ The Lake is an entertaining science fiction movie. Its a movie that was made for TV, and its surprisingly good for a TV movie. There is plenty of action to keep viewers on their seats._ Yasmine Bleeths performance is OK as the nurse and main character of the story. The other actors are also all right. But the best performance of the movie is from Haley Joel Osment. He was only 10 years old at that time. He later became when started in the movie The Sixth Sense with Bruce Wills_ My only idea is that some of the characters are slow to figure out whats going on. Its disappointing because it makes the characters not very believable. The viewer figures out th truth long before the characters do.四、 單詞填空(共10題;每小題1分,共10分) (共1題;共10分)7.
