Thisidiomisoftenusedtotalkaboutsituationswherepeoplefailafterwastingthreechances.(L45)

這個習語經(jīng)常用來形容人們在浪費了三次機會之后失敗的情形。

當先行詞是situation,stage,case,point,position,circumstance,condition,state等表示抽象地點的名詞時,若關(guān)系詞在定語從句中作狀語,則定語從句常用where或“介詞+which”來引導。

Youcannotputyourpetsinacircumstance_______theymightbekilled.

Nowcomesanimportantpoint__________I'llusethroughoutthislecture.

先行詞是抽象地點名詞時,若關(guān)系詞在從句中作主語或賓語,不能用where,而要用關(guān)系代詞。

where

that/which

Hencecomestheidiom“belowthebelt”.(lines51-52)

這是一個倒裝句。出于習慣用法:here,there,now,thus,hence,then放在句首,句子全部倒裝。

Eg.

Hereisaticketforyou.

Thereexistsaneffectivewaytohandletheexistingproblem.

here,there用于倒裝結(jié)構(gòu)時主語一般為名詞,如果是人稱代詞則不需要倒裝。eg.Hereyouare.

Inday-to-daylife,ifsomeonemakesanunfairandcruelremark,wecandescribeitas“belowthebelt”.(L53)
