AcademicSkillsII

Description

ThisAcademicSkillsProgram(ASP)isdesignedtoprovidebothacomprehensiveandcritical

introductiontoAustralianacademicculture.Thecourseisdividedinto60hoursthatstretchoversemesters5and6.

Thiscoursewillteachstudentshowtobeanindependentlearner,workinateam,prepareforadebate,searchforusefuljournalarticles.Inaddition,studentshowtoreferencecorrectlyandavoidplagiarism,takenotesduringlectures,conductresearch,usecriticalthinkingskills,andunderstandjournalarticleswritteninEnglish.

Importantly,thiscoursewillhelpstudentsintegrateintoacademicculture.Overall,theskillstaughtinthiscoursewillallowstudentstoexpresstheirownvoicesinaformalacademicmanner.

Pre-requisites

ThestudentsshouldfinishAcademicSkillsIandachieveaboutIELTS6.0

IntendedLearningOutcomes

UponcompletionoftheAcademicSkillsProgram(ASP),studentswillbeableto:

?UnderstandtheexpectationsofAustralianacademiawithinitsculturalcontexts

?Developtheskillsneededtobecomeeffectivelearnersatuniversity,bothnationallyandinternationally.

?Demonstratetheconceptandvalueofaclear,logical,andsoundargument-bothinwritingandspeaking

?Evaluatecritically,analyseandproduceacademicreports

?Communicateoralandwrittenargumentsandideaseffectivelyandarticulately.

?Conductresearchinaconventionalandefficientmanner,andunderstandtheconceptofplagiarism
