Inthetapestryofmychildhoodmemories,thereisaparticulardaythatshineswithauniqueluster—thedaywecelebratedwhatweplayfullynamedthe“YiyiChildren'sDay”.

Itallstartedonasunnymorning.Thebirdsweresingingcheerfullyoutsidemywindow,asiftheytoowereawareofthespecialdayahead.MyfriendsandIhadcomeupwiththisideaofcreatingourownchildren'sday,adaythatwassolelyours,filledwithadventuresanddreams.Wenamedit“Yiyi”becauseitsoundedcuteandcarriedasenseofourownlittleworld.

Wemetatourfavoritespot,anoldoaktreeintheneighborhoodpark.Thegrassbeneathourfeetwassoftandgreen,likeanaturalcarpet.Wespreadoutabigcheckeredblanketandplacedallthedelicioustreatswehadbrought.Therewerehomemadesandwiches,juicyfruits,andanarrayofcolorfulcandies.Aswemunchedonoursnacks,wesharedfunnystoriesandlaugheduncontrollably.

Afterourlittlepicnic,wedecidedtogoonatreasurehunt.Wehadhiddensmalltrinketsallaroundtheparkthedaybefore.Somewerehiddenunderrocks,someinthehollowoftrees,andafewwereburiedinthesoftsoil.Withmapsdrawnbyourselvesinhand,wesetoffindifferentdirections,oureyesscanningeverycornerwithexcitement.

IrememberhowmyheartracedwhenIthoughtIhadfoundaclue.Ifollowediteagerly,mystepsquickeningwithanticipation.AndwhenIfinallydugoutasmall,shinykeychainfromunderabush,Ifeltasenseofaccomplishmentlikenoother.Weallgatheredbackattheoaktree,showingoffourtreasures,ourfacesbeamingwithpride.

Astheafternoonrolledin,wedecidedtoputonaplay.Weusedthebigoaktreeasourstagebackdrop.Withmakeshiftcostumesmadefromoldsheetsandscarves,weperformedastorywehadwrittentogether.Oneofmyfriendsplayedthebraveknight,anotherthekindprincess,andItookontheroleofthemischievousfairy.Weforgotabouttheworldaroundusaswegotlostinourroles,ourvoicesechoingthroughthepark.

Whenthesunbegantoset,paintingtheskyinhuesoforangeandpink,wesatinacircle,enjoyingthepeacefulbeautyofthemoment.Wetalkedaboutourhopesanddreamsforthefuture.Onefriendsaidshewantedtobeanartistandpaintthebeautifullandscapesshesaw.Anotherdreamedofbecomingascientistanddiscoveringnewthings.Isharedmydreamoftravelingtheworldandexperiencingdifferentcultures.

This“YiyiChildren'sDay”wasnotjustadayoffunandgames.Itwasadayofconnection,ofbuildingmemoriesthatwouldstaywithusforever.Itwasadaywhenwewerefreetobeourselves,toletourimaginationsrunwild.
