課時作業(yè)(十五)Ⅰ.閱讀理解[2023·全國乙卷]If

you

want

to

tell

the

history

of

the

whole

world,a

history

that

does

not

privilege

one

part

of

humanity,you

cannot

do

it

through

texts

alone,because

only

some

of

the

world

has

ever

had

texts,while

most

of

the

world,for

most

of

the

time,has

not.Writing

is

one

of

humanity’s

later

achievements,and

until

fairly

recently

even

many

literate(有文字的)societies

recorded

their

concerns

not

only

in

writing

but

in

things.Ideally

a

history

would

bring

together

texts

and

objects,

and

some

chapters

of

this

book

are

able

to

do

just

that,but

in

many

cases

we

simply

can’t.The

clearest

example

of

this

between

literate

and

non-literate

history

is

perhaps

the

first

conflict,at

Botany

Bay,between

Captain

Cook’s

voyage

and

the

Australian

Aboriginals.From

the

English

side,we

have

scientific

reports

and

the

captain’s

record

of

that

terrible

day.From

the

Australian

side,we

have

only

a

wooden

shield(盾)

dropped

by

a

man

in

flight

after

his

first

experience

of

gunshot.If

we

want

to

reconstruct

what

was

actually

going

on

that

day,the

shield

must

be

questioned

and

interpreted

as

deeply

and

strictly

as

the

written

reports.In

addition

to

the

problem

of

miscomprehension

from

both

sides,there

are

victories

accidentally

or

deliberately

twisted,

especially

when

only

the

victors

know

how

to

write.Those

who

are

on

the

losing

side

often

have

only

their

things

to

tell

their

stories.The

Caribbean

Taino,the

Australian

Aboriginals,the

African

people

of

Benin

and

the

Incas,all

of

whom

appear

in

this

book,can

speak

to

us

now

of

their

past

achievements

most

powerfully

through

the

objects

they

made;

a

history

told

through

things

gives

them

back

a

voice.When

we

consider

contact(聯(lián)系)

between

literate

and

non-literate

societies

such

as

these,all

our

first-hand

accounts

are

necessarily

twisted,only

one

half

of

a

dialogue.If

we

are

to

find

the

other

half

of

that

conversation,we

have

to

read

not

just

the

texts,but

the

objects.(

段,使之構成一篇完整的短文。I

was

invited

to

a

cookout

on

an

old

friend’s

farm

in

western

Washington.I

parked

my

car

outside

the

farm

and

walked

past

a

milking

house

which

had

apparently

not

been

used

in

many

years.A

noise

at

a

window

caught

my

attention,so

I

entered

it.It

was

a

hummingbird(蜂鳥),desperately

trying

to

escape.She

was

covered

in

spider-webs(蛛網)

and

was

barely

able

to

move

her

wings.She

ceased

her

struggle

the

instant

I

picked

her

up.With

the

bird

in

my

cupped

hand,I

looked

around

to

see

how

she

had

gotten

in.The

broken

window

glass

was

the

likely

answer.I

stuffed

a

piece

of

cloth

into

the

hole

and

took

her

outside,closing

the

door

securely

behind

me.When

I

opened

my

hand,the

bird

did

not

fly

away;

she

sat

looking

at

me

with

her

bright

eyes.I

removed

the

sticky

spider-webs

that

covered

her

head

and

wings.Still,she

made

no

attempt

to

fly.Perhaps

she

had

been

struggling

against

the

window

too

long

and

was

too

tired?

Or

too

thirsty?As

I

carried

her

up

the

blackberry-lined

path

toward

my

car

where

I

kept

a

water

bottle,she

began

to

move.I

stopped,and

she

soon

took

wing

but

did

not

immediately

fly

away.Hovering(懸停),she

approached

within

six

inches

of

my

face.For

a

very

long

moment,this

tiny

creature

looked

into

my

eyes,turning

her

head

from

side

to

side.Then

she

flew

quickly

out

of

sight.During

the

cookout,I

told

my

hosts

about

the

hummingbird

incident.They

promised

to

fix

the

window.As

I

was

departing,

my

friends

walked

me

to

my

car.I

was

standing

by

the

car

when

a

hummingbird

flew

to

the

center

of

our

group

and

began

hovering.She

turned

from

person

to

person

until

she

came

to

me.She

again

looked

directly

into

my

eyes,then

let

out

a

squeaking

call

and

was

gone.For

a

moment,all

were

speechless.Then

someone

said,“She

must

have

come

to

say

good-bye.”注意:續(xù)寫詞數應為150左右。A

is

a

common

phenomenon

that

people

order

more

food

than

they

can

eat,

and

even

throw

away

their

leftovers

in

restaurants,which

has

caused

lots

of

wasting.Here,I’d

like

to

give

some

advice

on

reducing

food

waste.First,we

should

have

the

awareness

of

saving

food.Besides,we

ought

to

treasure

grain

wherever

we

are.Last

but

not

least,we

should

have

the

courage

to

fight

against

wasting

food.Just

as

the

saying

goes,“Saving

is

earning.”

Saving

food

is

a

virtue.So

let’s

act

now

to

save

food

as

much

as

possible.
