ThestoryofaneyewitnessByJackLondonJackLondon(1876-1916)themostsuccessfulwriterinAmericaintheearly20thCenturywhosevigorousstoriesofmenandanimalsagainsttheenvironment,andsurvivalagainsthardshipsweredrawnmainlyfromhisownexperience.The1906EarthquakeOnApril18,1906,oneofthestrongestearthquakeseverrecordedinNorthAmericastruckSanFrancisco,California.TheshakingoftheearthwasfeltallthewayfromsouthernOregontoLosAngelesandasfareastascentralNevada.Thequakeformedacrackintheearth'ssurfacearound290mileslong.TheearthquakeandthegreatfirethatfolloweddestroyedmuchofthecityofSanFrancisco.Anestimated28,000buildingswerelost,abouthalfthecity'spopulationwaslefthomeless,andmorethan3,000peopleperished.GroundfissureCityhalldestroyedCityonfireTentcityafterearthquakeQuestion:
