ThisGuidelineappliestosyntheticfiberropesforshipsengagedoninternationalvoyagesanddomesticvoyages:

Shipsecuring,towingandtowed;

Goodssecuring,hoistingandlashing.

Actualbreakingloadmeanstheactuallymeasuredvalueoffiberropebreakingloadduringbreakingtest,inkN.

Preloadmeansloadappliedtodeterminethenominaldiameterandlineardensityoffiberropesmaybeverifiedusingthefollowingformulaorotherrecognizedstandards.

F=n2/8×0.01 kN(n:nominaldiameter)

Nominaldiametermeansthenominalvalueofagivenfibreropediameterinrecognizedstandards.

Measureddiametermeansthediametermeasuredunderpreload,inmm.

Laylengthmeansthelengthofsamestrandedropewithncompletestrandsforstrandedropeandlengthofsametwistedropewithncompletetwistsforplaitedrope,inmm.

Technicalrequirements

Anylubricantinthenaturalfiberropesistobekepttoaminimum,andanyrot-proofingorwaterrepellencytreatmentisnottobedeleterioustothefiber.

Fiberropesmaybeofathree-strand,four-strand,six-strand,eight-strand,twelve-strandordouble-braidconstructionappropriatetotheirrespectivematerialsandtypes,otherconstructionformswillbespeciallyconsidered.

Materialsandcomponents

Fiberropesmaybemadeofnaturalfibers(coir,hemp,manilaorsisal)ormaybecomposedofsyntheticfibers(polyamide,polyester,polypropylenepolyolefin,ultra-highmolecularweightpolytheneorthemixtureofabovematerials).Ifitisintendedtouseothermaterials,sufficientdataaretobeavailabletoshowcomplianceoftheirpropertieswithservicerequirements.Thematerialusedforthemanufactureoffiberropesistobeofgoodandconsistentqualityandresistanttocorrosionandaging.

ThequalifiedsupplierlistofrawmaterialsshouldbeinvestigatebyCCS,andthelistincludesrawmaterials’name,type/specification,controlmodeandsupplier.Therawmaterialsshouldbere-testedbythemanufacturerincominginspection.

Typetest

Selectionoftypicalsamples

Forfiberropesofthesamematerial,samerawmaterialmanufacturer,andidenticalconstruction,oneropeeachwiththemaximumandminimumdiametersshallgenerallybeselectedforfactoryacceptancetypetesting.Thesamplefromthemaximum-diameterropemustbetakenfromthefullropeandmustnotbesubstitutedbystrandseparation.

Rawmaterialssubjecttosamplingtest:selectingsamplesinprinciplethattheropesofsamecolorandsamegradeareregardedasabatch,whilethreadsandlinesofdifferentmaterialsaresampledrespectively.Take5packagesfromabatchinarawmaterialwarehouseandselect2reels(hanks)fromeachpackageasspecimen.

Inspectionitemsforrawmaterials:tocarryouttestinaccordancewithrawmaterialsacceptancetechnicalrequirementsprovidedbythemanufacturer.

Visualinspection:forthesamebatchofproducts,theircolordifferencesaregenerallyinconsistency,surfacearesmooth,noscratch,andnoundrawnyarnisallowed.

Forphysicalproperty,thefollowingitemsaretobetested:

Testforfiberbreakingelongation;

Fiberbreakingload;

Fiberlineardensity.

Inspectionitemsforfiberropes

Visualexamination

Visuallyinspectthestrandsevennessandsmoothness,breakingstrands,slacktwistsandtocheckifthereisanywearing,scratch,cuttingorothertypesofdamageexisting.

Visuallyinspectanyoilandcolorvarianceonfiberropesurface.

TestmethodsandproceduresforphysicalpropertiesmaybereferredtoinChapter2,PartTwoofChinaClassificationSocietyRulesforMaterialsandWelding.

Diametermeasuring;

Lineardensitycalculation;

Breakingtest;(testistoadoptcompletedropeinsteadofcalculatingbybreakingstrands).

Testprocedure

Themeasurementofbreakingforce

Thetestpieceofbreakingtestisbeofadequatelengthtogiveaminimumfreelength,Lu,betweenterminationswhichisatleastequalto5pitchesorlaysor400mm,whicheverisgreater.Thedistancefromeachmark"r"totheendofthesplice(ortothetangentpointinthecaseofabollard)istobeaminimumoftwicethediameterandamaximumofthreetimesthediameteroftherope.SeeFigure7.4.1.

Thencontinuetoincreasethetension,atthesamespeed,untiltheropebreaks.Afterapplicationofpreload,thediameterandevenlay-upofthesamplearetobechecked.ThesampleisthensubjecttoloadatthetestspeedgiveninTable7.4.1frompreloadto50%of

theminimumbreakingforcefor3or10consecutivecycles(thenumberofcyclesaretoberecordedinthetestreport),followedbyloadatthesamespeeduntilitbreaks.

Thetestresultsshouldmeetthefollowingrequirements:

①Duringtesting,ifthesampleisheldbygripsandthebreakoccurswithinthe“r”marksandthebreakingloadisnotlessthantheminimumbreakingloadspecifiedintherecognizedstandard,thetestmaybeaccepted;

②Ifthebreakoccursoutsidethe“r”marksatthegrippedortwistedportionwhilethebreakingloadhasattainedtoorishigherthan90%oftheminimumbreakingload,thetestmaybeaccepted.However,itshouldnotbeassumedthatthetruebreakingloadofthespecimenwouldberepresentedbymultiplyingtheresultby10/9;

③Ifthetestresultfailed,twomoresamplescanbetakenfromtheoriginalropeforretest.Bothsamplespassthetestandtheresultsareaccepted.Ifoneofthesamplesisunqualified,thejudgmentresultisunqualified.

Lineardensitycalculation

Thelineardensityistobetestedasfollows:afteradjustingthetemperatureandmoistureofthesampleaccordingtorecognizedstandards,applypreload(theerroristobecontrolledwithin±5%)ontheropeandmaintainfor1min.Placetwomarksontherope2mapart,thenremovetheloadanddetachthesamplefromtheparentlengthbycuttingcleanlyatthetwomarks.Weighthemassofthesampleandcalculatelineardensityusingthefollowingformula:

Unit/batchinspection

Samplesaretobetakenfromthefiberropeswiththesamerawmaterialslotnumber,thesamestructureandsizes,andthesameproductionprocedure.Exceptasagreedotherwise,Ssamplesaretobetakenatrandomfromtheabovementionedfiberropesfortest.Sisobtainedbythefollowingformula:

WhenNiscounted,220meterscanbeaccumulatedasonereelwhenthelengthofeachropeislessthan20meters,(lessthan220miscountedas1roll).

IfthecalculatedSvalueisnotaninteger,itistoberoundedtotheclosestinteger.WhenSislessthan1,onesampleonlyistobetaken.

Testitemsandproceduresaretobeperformedintestandinspectionsaccordingto7.2~7.4ofthisGuideline.

Breakagecalculationmethodisnotacceptedtoreplacewholeropetestforbreakingtestintheunit/batchinspection.Fiberrope
