TheScheduleofdatesandtopicsmaybemodifiedslightlyduringthesemester.AnychangeswillbesentasannouncementsthatwillbepostedonBlackboardandsentautomaticallytoallstudentsintheclassviaNYITemail.StudentexpectationandresponsibilitiesIexpectthatyouwillcometoclassregularlyandhavepreviewedthematerialpresentedinthetextpriortothebeginningoftheclassperiod.Plantospend2-3hoursoutsideofclassforeveryhourwehaveinclass.Thistimeshouldbespentreviewingthetextbook,completingassignments,organizingandelaboratingonclassnotes,workingonchapterreviewquestions,orstudyingforexams.Isuggestthatyouspreadthistimeoutacrosstheweekratherthantryingto“cram”thenightbeforethegivenclassperiodorexam.QuizzesQuizzeswillbegivenmultipletimes,dependingontheprogressofstudents'learningtowardtheleaningobjectives.Scoreswillberecalculatedtobe5points(themaximumpossiblescoreis100pointsinthiscourse).Deductionsforlatearrival,earlydeparture,andunexcusedabsencesMorethanfiveinstancesoflatearrival,earlydepartureandunexcusedabsences(combined)willloweryourfinalgradebyatleastfivepoints.AttendancepolicyStudentsareexpectedtoattendeveryclasssession.Upto2unexcusedabsencesarepermittedduringthesemester.Studentswhoexceedtheselimitsmaybesubjecttofailure.Ifastudentmissesanyclassortest,theinstructorhastherighttoeithergrantordenyanopportunitytomakeuptheworkthatwasmissed.Insuchcases,theinstructorshallbethesolejudgeofthevalidityofastudent'sexplanationforhavingmissedtheclassortest.ClassroombehaviorBehaviorthatdisrupts,impairs,interfereswith,orobstructstheorderlyconduct,processes,andfunctionswithinanacademicclassroomorlaboratoryviolatesthestudentcodeofconductandmayresultindisciplinaryaction.ThisincludesinterferingwiththeacademicmissionofNYITorindividualclassroomorinterferingwithafacultymember’sorinstructor’sroletocarryoutthenormalacademicoreducationalfunctionsofhisclassroomorlaboratory,includingteachingandresearch.AppealingyourscoresAllstudentshavetherighttoaskquestionsaboutthegradetheyreceiveonanyassignment,quizorexam.However,anydiscussionmusttakeplaceinwritingandmustbesenttomebye-mailnolaterthan1weekafterthescoreisdistributed.Unreasonablerequests(e.g.“canyoubumpupmyscoreup15points”)orlackofeffort(e.g.missingclassoftenornotaskingforhelpuntiltheverylastminutes)willlimitmyabilitytosolvethisproblem.TechnologypolicyThiscoursewillrequiretheuseofsomecommunicationtechnologies(e.g.,tablets,cellphone).Thus,communicationtechnologiescanbeusedduringclass,butonlywhenrecommendedbytheinstructor.Ifyouhaveanoutstandingneedtouseyourcellphoneorcomputerforprivatecommunication,pleaseseetheinstructorpriortoclass.Foryourfinalprojectpresentation,youareallowedtouseyourownlaptop.WithdrawalpolicyAstudentmaywithdrawfromacoursewithoutpenaltythroughtheendofthe8thweekofclassduringa14-or15-weeksemesterandthroughthe8thmeetingduringan8-weekcoursecycle.Afterthis,thestudentmustbedoingpassingworkinordertoreceiveaWgrade.Studentswhoarenotpassingafterthe8thweekorequivalentwillbeassignedthegradeofWF.Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytoinformtheinstructorofhis/herintentiontowithdrawfromacourse.Ifastudenthasstoppedattendingclasswithoutcompletingallassignmentsand/orexaminations,failinggradesforthemissingworkmaybefactoredintothefinalgradecalculationandtheinstructorforthecoursemayassignthegradeofWF.ThegradeofFisusedforstudentswhohavecompletedthecoursebutwhosequalityofworkisbelowthestandardforpassing.Withdrawalformsareavailableindepartmentalofficesandoncecompletedmustbefiledwiththeregistrar.StudentsshouldberemindedthataWnotationcouldnegativelyimpacttheireligibilityforfinancialaidand/orV.A.benefits,asitmaychangethestudent’senrollmentstatus(full-time,part-time,lessthanpart-time).Internationalstudentsmayalsojeopardizetheirvisastatusiftheyfailtomaintainfull-timestatus.AcademicintegrityandplagiarismpoliciesEachstudentenrolledinacourseatNYITagreesthat,bytakingsuchcourse,heorsheconsentstothesubmissionofallrequiredpapersfortextualsimilarityreviewtoanycommercialserviceengagedbyNYITtodetectplagiarism.Eachstudentalsoagreesthatallpaperssubmittedtoanysuchservicemaybeincludedassourcedocumentsintheservice’sdatabase,solelyforthepurposeofdetectingplagiarismofsuchpapers.Plagiarismistheappropriationofallorpartofsomeoneelse’sworks(suchasbutnotlimitedtowriting,coding,programs,images,etc.)andofferingitasone’sown.Cheatingisusingfal
