anattack.However,thecity'spolicefailedtoprovideprotection.Inmid-December,

policeenteredtwoofIndia'solderuniversitiesandstudentswerebeaten,property

wasdamagedandteargasused.Bothinstitutionshadtoclosetemporarily,disrupting

teachingandresearch.JamiaMillia'svice-chancellorsaidthatitisnotacceptablefor

policetoharminnocentstudents.

Theseverityofthepoliceactionhasrightlypromptedachorusofinternational
