PrinceinbothSpanishandHungarian.Theyalsoheardscrambled（雜舌l(xiāng).的）versionsoftheserecordingsthat

madenosenseandsoundedcompletelyunnatural.

Whenexaminingtheresponsesofthedogs'brainstotheserecordings,theresearchersnotedthatactivity

patternswithintheanimals'primaryauditorycortex（聽覺皮層）differeddependingonwhethertheyheardactual

speechorscramblednonsense.Thissuggeststhatdogsareindeedabletotellthedifferencebetweenspeechand

non-speech,regardlessofthelanguagespoken.

Theresearchersalsofoundthatthisresponsetolanguagewasmorepronouncedinolderdogs,leadingthem

toconcludethatlongerexposuretohumanspeechenablespetdogstoimprovetheirlanguagerecognitionskills.
