recordingsofhumanspeech.TwoofthedogsinvolvedinthestudycamefromhomesthatspokeSpanish,while
theremaining16belongedtoHungarian-speakingfamilies.
Whileinthescanner,eachdoglistenedtoanexcerpt(節(jié)選)fromAntoinedeSaint-Exupery^TheLittle
PrinceinbothSpanishandHungarian.Theyalsoheardscrambled(雜舌l(xiāng).的)versionsoftheserecordingsthat
madenosenseandsoundedcompletelyunnatural.
Whenexaminingtheresponsesofthedogs'brainstotheserecordings,theresearchersnotedthatactivity
patternswithintheanimals'primaryauditorycortex(聽覺皮層)differeddependingonwhethertheyheardactual
speechorscramblednonsense.Thissuggeststhatdogsareindeedabletotellthedifferencebetweenspeechand
non-speech,regardlessofthelanguagespoken.
Theresearchersalsofoundthatthisresponsetolanguagewasmorepronouncedinolderdogs,leadingthem
toconcludethatlongerexposuretohumanspeechenablespetdogstoimprovetheirlanguagerecognitionskills.
Inastatement,studyauthorAttilaAndieexplainedthesefindingsindicatethat“thecapacitytolearnabout
theregularitiesofalanguageisnotuniquelyhuman.,,However,itremainstobeseen"whetherthiscapacityis
