Abstract

WithChina’sambitiousOneBeltOneRoadinitiative,theSilkRoadEconomicBelthasbeenputinthespotlight.ThisinitiativeaimstorevivetheancientSilkRoadtradingroutesandboosteconomiccooperationbetweenAsiaandEurope.Alongtheroute,creatinginternationalaviationhubsisoneoftheessentialstrategiestoenhancelogisticsandtransportation,aswellaspromotetourism.ThispaperaimstoinvestigatethecompetitionbetweentheSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubs,analyzethefactorsaffectingtheircompetitiveness,andexplorestrategiestoimprovetheirpositions.

Introduction

TheSilkRoad,anancienttraderoute,haslongbeensignificanttothedevelopmentoftheeconomiesandculturesofAsiaandEurope.

WiththeChinesegovernment’sOneBeltOneRoadinitiative,theSilkRoadEconomicBelthasgainedglobalattention,aimingtobuildstrongertradeandconnectivitybetweenmorethansixtycountries.Inparticular,creatinginternationalaviationhubsalongtherouteentailsbuildinginfrastructuresuchasairports,aircargofacilities,aviationmaintenanceandrepairfacilities,anddevelopingaviation-relatedindustries,leadingtoeconomicgrowthanddevelopment.ThispaperfocusesonthecompetitionamongSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubs,analyzestheirrelativecompetitiveness,andexploresstrategiestoimprovetheirpositions.

CompetitionamongSilkRoadEconomicBeltAviationHubsTheSilkRoadEconomicBeltspansmorethan60countries,

includingChina,Mongolia,Russia,Kazakhstan,Iran,andTurkey,withvastpotentialforcross-bordertradeandtourism.Totakeadvantageofthispotential,theChinesegovernmenthasplannedforseveralaviationhubsalongtheSilkRoadEconomicBelt.Thesehubsaimtoenhancetradeandconnectivitybyprovidingefficientlogisticsandtransportationservices,andtopromotethetourismindustrybyfacilitatingtravelers’journeys.

Currently,severalSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubshavebeenestablishedorunderconstruction,suchasthehubsinUrumqi,Changsha,Chengdu,Xi’an,andLanzhou,withthemostsignificantandmostdevelopedbeinginXi’anandUrumqi.Thecompetitionbetweenthesehubsisintense,witheachhavingitsstrengthsandweaknesses.Xi'anattractssignificantinternationalairlines,whileUrumqihasthefourthlongestrunwayintheworld,providingmaximumflexibilityandconvenienceforlargeaircraft.OtherSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubsarerequiredtoimprovetobecompetitive.

FactorsAffectingCompetitivenessofSilkRoadEconomicBeltAviationHubs

ThecompetitivenessofSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubsdependsonseveralfactors:geographiclocation,infrastructure,airlinesandroutes,investmentincentives,regulatoryenvironment,servicequality,andthelocaleconomy.

GeographicLocation

Thegeographiclocationoftheaviationhubisacriticalfactorinitscompetitiveness.Anaviationhubshouldbelocatedatastrategicpointthathasthepotentialtoconnectregionsorcountriestomaximizethenumberofconnectingflights.ForSilkRoadEconomicBeltaviationhubs,theyshouldbelocatedatthecoreoftheBelt,suchthattheyprovide
