1.1Theserequirementscoverfluorescentself-ballastedlampsandfluorescentlampadaptersrated120voltsnominalforusewithEdison-baselampholdersinincandescentlightingfixturesandportableelectriclamps.TheseproductsareintendedforuseinaccordancewiththeNationalElectricalCode,ANSI/NFPA70.

1.2Thesedevicesincorporateresistance,reactance,orelectronic(solidstate)typeballasts.

1.3Theserequirementsdonotcovermedium-to-mediumbase(E26)fittingsthatincorporatecontrolssuchasphotocells,motiondetectors,radiocontrols,ordimmers.

1.4Thesedevicesarenotintendedforusewithemergencyexitfixturesoremergencyexitlights.

1.5Aproducthavingfeatures,characteristics,components,materials,orsystemsnewordifferentfromthoseinusewhentheStandardwasdeveloped,andthatinvolvesariskoffire,electricshock,orinjurytopersons,shallbeevaluatedusingtheappropriateadditionalcomponentandend-productrequirementsasdeterminednecessarytomaintainthelevelofsafetyfortheuseroftheproductasoriginallyanticipatedbytheintentofthisStandard.2Glossary

3.1.1Exceptasindicatedin,acomponentofaproductcoveredbythisstandardshallcomplywiththerequirementsforthatcomponent.SeeAppendixforalistofStandardscoveringcomponentsgenerallyusedintheproductscoveredbythisstandard.

3.1.2Acomponentneednotcomplywithaspecificrequirementthat:a)

Involvesafeatureorcharacteristicnotneededintheapplicationofthecomponentintheproductcoveredbythisstandard,orb)

5.5Anenclosureshallnothaveopeningswiderthan2mm(0.078inch),unlesstheydonotpermita2mm(0.078inch)diameterrodofanylengthtocontactliveparts.Exception:Theuninsulatedlivepartsofalampholderintowhichalampconnectsarenotrequiredtocomply.

5.6Theenclosureopeningsinalampadaptershallbeevaluatedwiththelampremoved.

6.2Adevicelampholderofafluorescentlampadapteristobetestedasspecifiedinwiththelamporlampsthatthedeviceisintendedtoaccommodate.Thelampholdershallbekeyedtoaccommodateaspecificlamporlampsorcomplywith.ThelampholderkeyingshallcomplywithLampCapsandHoldersTogetherWithGaugesfortheControlofInterchangeabilityandSafety,IECPublication61-2.

6.3AdevicelampholdernotcomplyingwithshallcomplywithSection,LampStartingandOperatingMeasurements.7Current-CarryingParts

7.1Aninsulatedconductorshallhaveinsulationratedforthevoltage,temperature,andconditionsofintendeduse.

7.2Theinsulationofaconductorshallresistmoistureabsorption.

7.3Wherelooseningorbreakingofelectricalconnectionsinvolvesariskoffireorelectricshock,theconnectionsshallbesoldered,welded,orotherwisesecurelyconnected.Asolderedjointshallbemechanicallysecurebeforesoldering.Exception:Asurfacemountcomponentwithamaximumdimensionof13mm(0.5inch)neednotcomplywiththisrequirement.

7.4Awireisconsideredtobemechanicallysecurewhenoneormoreofthefollowingisprovided:a)

7.5Ironorsteel,plainorplated,shallnotbeusedforcurrent-carryingparts.ExceptionNo.1:Awireintegraltothelamplightsourceneednotcomplywiththisrequirement.ExceptionNo.2:Ironandsteelpartsusedforthecontainmentofelectromagneticorelectrostaticfieldsneednotcomplywiththisrequirement.

7.6Anuninsulatedlivepartshallbepermanentlymountedandsecuredtoreducethelikelihoodofturningorshiftingpositionifsuchmotionmayresultinareductionofspacingsbelowminimumacceptablevalues.

7.7Anaccessiblewirebetweenalampconnectorforacircularlampandthedeviceenclosureshall:a)

Becontinuouslength(nosplices)ofstrandedwire,b)

IncorporateaconductorofNo.20AWG(0.52mm2)orlarger;andc)

Haveinsulation0.8mm(1/32inch)thickorgreater.

8.1AballastshallcomplywiththerequirementsoftheStandardforFluorescent-LampBallasts,,andhaveClassPthermalprotection.

8.2Aballastevaluatedinthedeviceshall:a)

ComplywiththeconstructionrequirementsoftheStandardforFluorescentLampBallasts,;b)

BesubjectedtotheAbnormal-TemperatureTestandFault-ConditionTest-ClassPThermallyProtectedBallastsdescribedinwiththedeviceinstalledbasedownata40癈(104癋)ambienttemperature,orinstalledinthetestfixturedescribedintheNormalTemperatureTest,Section,ata25癈(77癋)ambienttemperature;andc)

Bemeasuredforthemaximumsurfaceballasttemperaturebyathermocoupleontheoutersurfaceofthedevice.

8.3AfusingresistorusedforthermalprotectionshallcomplywiththeStandardforFusingResistorsandTemperature-LimitedResistors,.

10.3ApolymericenclosureshallhaveaflammabilityratingofatleastV-1.

10.4ApolymericenclosureofadevicemarkedforwetlocationuseshallcomplywiththeUltravioletLightExposureTestspecifiedintheStandardforPolymericMaterials-UseinElectricalEquipmentEvaluations,.

10.5Withrespectto,thefollowingapplies:a)
