Symptoms
Thepredominantsymptomofamigraineheadacheisasharppainononeorbothsidesofthehead.Paleness,sweating,andsensitivitytolightmayaccompanythepain.Awarningsensationmayindicateanapproachingmigraineheadache.Beforethepainbegins,someindividualsmayseeflashinglightsor"shootingstars",hearnoises,orhaveanuncomfortablefeelinginthearmsorlegs.
Diagnosis
Vascularheadachesarediagnosedbyacarefulreviewofthecircumstancessurroundingtheheadachesaswellasbyaphysicalexaminationtoruleoutanyotherdisorderthatmightbecausingthesymptoms.Eliminationtestsmaybedonetoidentifytheexactcauseofmigrainessufferedbypeoplewhoseemtoreacttocertainfoodsorchangesineatingandsleepinghabits.Inaneliminationtest,allthesubstancesthataresuspectedofcausingthetroubleareeliminatedandthenreintroducedoneatatimetoidentifythespecificcauseofthemigraineheadaches.
Treatment
Treatmentofamigrainealreadyinprogressusuallyconsistsofadrugtherapyprogramchosenfromavarietyofpainkillers,tranquilizers,andspecialprescribedmedications.
Prevention
